Angry I screwed up the paint on the hood!!!!!

Guys, I was trying to take out this big green thick bird droping and in the process I scratched the paint. It looks like alot of little lines going back and forth. Like this ##
##

This is a 2007 TL-NAV with 6K miles and I already ruined it. What can I do or use to restore it?

Auto part stores carry scratch remover. Or you can use a very fine grit sand paper and wet sand it. If you do that, you'll have to put more clear coat on it, though.

try buffing it. if its not too deep, you can get it out. any pics?

I just tried to get some pics and it reflects. Cannot see the scratches. If you pass the fingernail you feel the scratches.

Try searching the Wash & Wash section. There's lots of good info and I know this has been discussed plenty...so I think you'll be ok after you do some reading

The BEST TOP RATED scratch remover is "Quixx" High performance Scratch Remover.

It sells for $21 for 1.8 oz. But it will do the best. If it doesn't help, good luck...

I could not find anything for light scracthes. you cant hardly sii, but it bothers me that its there. Can you refer any links?

No no, you won't have to put more clear coat on it. The clear coat is quite thick from the factory. You should be able to wet sand it (1200 grit, then 1500 and maybe even 2100 after that) and buff it out with a high powered orbital buffer/wool pad and clear cut compound. I would NOT do this if you have no experience buffing or you will burn right into your paint. Best bet is to take it to a professional detail shop and have them work on it...shouldn't be more than $50 or so to wet sand/buff the hood.

Without pics no one here can evaluate the problem. If you can not see the scratches with a camera then they must be really really small. If this is true then some Megs Scratch X should take care of it. Do not try wetsanding unless you know what you are doing. Try using a light to highlight the scratches and take a photo without the flash. You can also use the sun, garage lighting, or a powerfull flashlight for illumination.

I would not use any sandpaper. Use this if you can find it, it works fantastic.

Go online and buy it.

soak the bird poop before trying to take off. Use a very wet towel and left it sit on the poop for about 10-15 minutes.

Not that simple .. compound is a big word and many get in trouble and make the problem worse by using the WRONG compound and applying it wrong.

Best off to take the advice of the poster above and let a pro do it.

Its actually quite thin, especially on Hondas/Acuras.

u should post a pic of it in that forum... the guys in there are very knowledgable and our vendor has many products that can help you... Quixx is one of them...

He noted, his pics didn't show the scratches.

You need a top end cam to show the scratches on the paint surfaces usually.

The only comment I have here is to get someone to look at it. Someone who knows what they are doing. Better to pay an hour for labor than to buy something and screw it up more. If you do not know what you are doing you would be better to practice on something other than your shiny new car.

It's not so thin that you can't wet sand and buff it....I don't know of any car that has a clear coat that you can't wet sand and buff.

If you use wetsand using 1500 for a little bit and then 2000 to even it out, then you are ok. I just did it on our 2000 TL and no problems... Ah hell. just start with 2000 grit and thats it. Just do it enough to knock the shine off (since you said that its so light that you cant even see it with a cam) the paint and then polish it out. I have done it on my CL, the TL i just mentioned and an 06 RL when some asshole leaned against the car with something and scratched it a tad bit.

You might be able to just use polishing compound... I wouldnt know without seeing it.
