you take the grill off the car (instructions can be found somewhere on the forums) and then you wet sand it then spray paint it using multiple layers. if you want a flat black you just use only the black spray paint. but if you want a glossy black you will have to add additional layers of clear coat to it also. OR you can take it apart and vinyl it using a vinyl that you can order online. painting it is easier imo though. good luck!

One on the right for me
I had mine painted. It didn't seem to hold up well to highway driving - started to chip. I had a good paint shop spray it. Maybe they just did a shitty job but it wasn't worth the money.
I went with the vinyl a few weeks ago. I am pretty bad at putting it on but I think it holds up much better.

you have any pictures of your grill with the vinyl? i was considering spraying it also but after doing my back emblem i didnt like it too much so i think im gnna either take it to a shop or doing the vinyl depending on how it looks.

Bottom line: to do what you want to do, you will have to take the bumper off. About 10 screws removed and your grill is broken down. I had mine painted to match and it turned out awesome. Its not expensive. >$75 just for the honeycomb grill painted and the surrounding pieces.

i painted mine myself and it came out great...i just masked off everything i didnt want painted instead of removing the bumper and used oem black spray paint and put on 3 coats and then did 2 clear coats...i had mine painted by a body shop at first and it started chipping after a week so i decided to just fix it myself and i think it actually came out better

how do you get the OEM paint? is it possible to go to a Home depot and give then your VIN number and they give you a spray can with the same paint? or go to a dealer?

I did my center piece with Black Trim Paint (Advance Auto) and clearcoat 2 weekends ago. I noticed a chip this morning---I have been watching closely expecting it to chip.
I think I need to do the vinyl wrap thing.

I used gloss black epoxy spray paint from ACE with a gloss clear. The stuff holds up really well compared to regular gloss black paint. No peeling or chips. Make sure you scuff the fake chrome really well and primer it.

+1 to Plasti-Dip. If you google it, you'll find that a lot of people from other forums use it to paint their grills. The hard part is getting a SMOOTH finish. But if you mess up, you can just peel it and try again. Since it's essentially rubber, it's also very resistant to chips, but does pick up dirty rather easily.
@samjcg: from what I've read, plasti-dipping a roof is rather difficult since the can is supposed to be vertical when you spray. If you point the can downward to spray the roof, it causes clumps in the paint and results in an unsmooth finish.

I wound up painting the silver inserts on both the front and back. I used Dupli-color Black Wheel Paint (figured if it was good enough for wheels it would be good enough for trim). The front has a couple of chips near the edges - you have to be right up on it to see them. It has held up well to city and highway driving, and several car washes over the past eight months. The key to any paint job is preperation.
If I were to do it again, I would use Dupli-colors Trim Paint - it is what I used to paint the gray insert of the A-Spec front lip black (did the same on the rear). I would have also used the Adhesion Promoter (again, I used this when I painted the black on the A-Spec pieces). The paint on the A-Spec pieces has held up very well.

When I painted my grill I let it site out for about a day and a half, so the paint would dry up good. Last time I rushed it chipped like crazy so this time I let it sit for a bit. I havent notice any chips, I got my paint from ebay where they have the matching cold for you car paint so it would match much better then auto zone and other places.
