i dont post here usually b/c i dont really race so i guess the disclaimer should be a race never took place tonight... but anyway im out tonight with some friends getting some food just a few mins ago, and theres some kid there with his friend n some girl hanging out in front of the newest gen gti (not r32) i think nothing of it ...
but this is the 2nd gti driver i have encountered who have no respect for honda/acura and think its slow n it sucks... not to mention the 2nd gti driver that swears they can take my tl-s ... anyway im getting in my car to go home n i hear the kid say to his friend "o id race a tl" his friend says "yeah they are slow" haha the kids car is without a doubt stock from what i could tell, and i just looked up its specs and its pathetic these idiots underestimate the tl so much... i just looked at them shook my head and drove away ... it took a great deal of self control but i bit my lip and didnt ask him to race.. but stupid stuff like that makes my blood boil hah... i kno our tl isnt a racecar but im sick of people underestimating it.. just thought id vent lol

Sounds like you're pretty There has been some talk that the GTI can take our TL's. However, I kinda wish you would have tried him, lol He is rolling on 200bhp, stock. You most likely would have taken him, because GTI's aren't necessarily light, either (3,100lbs, for a hatchback!). But, I applaud your patience and maturity!

 

i dunno what the difference is between the GTI and a VR6..but i beat my friend's (2000ish looking) VR6 w/ intake from a dig when i had 4 other people in my car LOL.... I'm all stock... his car was empty...stayed even up to 10 mph then BAM..walked away. That's no way bragging rights..but yea...just thought i'd share with you about my VW story.

A GTi gave me a good run while I was in my 02 Maxima. Albeit, we were on a curve where the 5.5G Maxima's poor handling abilities are exposed.

 

Once they get the ECU reflash, they can get quite nasty. Pushing over 20psi of boost. They come stock w/ 10psi. A good friend of mine has an 06 w/ the Revo reflash and intake, and that thing is damn quick.

 

Those new GTI's can run mid 14's stock at best. That 2.0 Turbo puts out great torque at a low RPM so don't count the GTI out. However from a roll is a different story. They trap mid 90's so you know the strength is out of the hole. The TL will win from a roll IMO.

them underestimating my car is the greatest thing in the world. the look on their faces are priceless. ive had my run of VW owners who have thought my car was slow. ive taken the new GLI Jetta which has a the same motor as the new GTis. man that guy was priceless, he was soo cocky he gave me head start the first run. I raced a new GTi too he had a bunch of mods and still lost by more than a car. im pretty sure the new R32s are no joke. a modded TL-S will have no issues stayin a head of a last gen R32s. ive done it a number of times

 

well i knew id be able to take him (at least i was pretty confident) i would have had one passenger in my car... my boy final (from the 3rd gen boards) was there to with his 6mt 06 TL i would've loved him to run just to put bus lengths on the gti but he left just before i did so he missed this little altercation ....im feeling confident since i just seafoamed the ride (thanks to Got_3.2? for the help) and it pulls harder than it has since ive owned the car so it would've been fun... ah oh well maybe ill see this clown again and i will extend a challenge on behalf of all of us at acurazine.com haha... im not big on racing but provided the roads are free of traffic, and weather conditions are permitting, ill run it haha

 

How will a 2nd gen TL-S (stock) do against a 20th anniversary GTI w/ ecu upgrade, CAI, and exhaust?

Best Motoring once compared the DSG and the non DSG model of the GTi. The DSG is definitely a faster car. They did 2 runs, each time with a different driver just to be fair. Even with their lightning shifting skill, the DSG is still faster, by like a car length. And if I remember correctly, they are capable of around 15.2s stock. With all those mods though, I think it will be a close race, provided that you are a good driver.

 

btw the new R36's will only come with DSG and they will rape..

GTi drivers think they own the road.. I have already taught two a lesson to never mess with my car. They got torque, so on the launch, they will keep up, but after u get into 3rd, u'll be able to pull away..

The dude i raced talked a lot of shit too. After we raced, he had nothign to say. We got it on video tape as well, so if he does talk shit around my town, we can show them the vid.

Really? I thought he'd put up a bigger fight! That's good to know because when I get off work this black modded VR6(exhaust,intake and a bunch of stickers) acts like he owns the road. I want to take him but don't know how I would stand. I guess i'd have to find out!

 

my friend has a tubro'd vr6. and he eats up anybody in our area. his car can rip. people think hes ricey cause of the retrofit projector headlights and cf hood so they try and race him and get destroyed. gti's are no joke. turbo vr6's can rip. and a 1.8t gti becomes a beast with the right tuning chip and even just an intake. vw owns this area, all the kids i roll with are dub kids. their cars take mods alot better than ours do.

 

and the weight of our cars is really slowing us down...ie..adding 10hp in those hatches mean a lot more than adding 10hp to our cars...

 

^^not really though ..those gti's are quite the fattys for a 2 door hatchback.

 

Id probably beat a GTI....never raced one, but I know those new R32's are quick..

 

Yea, no kidding, those GTi's are pretty heavy now, close to 3000lbs, but still 500 less than us!

 

the speed might be more, but the quality doesnt match up
