Hybrid Car ??

I am getting ready to buy another car now. When gas prices were $4 plus, I was really thinking about buying a hybrid. Now with gas prices back down to $2 or less, should I.

I understand the environment situation, however with the cost of a hybrid being $5k plus more, I will never make the money back over the life of the 4-5 years I am going to keep the car.

So any feedback of your experience owning a hybrid, or why I should or shoulnt would be appreciated.

Im not a hybrid fan. Sure a hybrid may burn clean out of the tailpipe but its just a feel good placebo, the process to build a hyrid from raw material to life on the road to disposal (I will use the Prius as an example) is extremely polluting. Using this cycle for comparison (manufacture/life on the road/disposal) the Prius is waaaaay harsher for the environment vs. a large SUV or pickup. Back when hybrids were not that popular the disposal thing wasnt that big of a deal. Whats gonna happen in 10 years when all of these hybrids need battery swaps etc... we are going to be facing a whole new problem. I myself would rather purchase a economic gas car or look at diesel. We are the only country that does not use diesel on a wide basis. Diesel cars can get equal results in terms of economy to a hybrid. Short of a world changing event (huge scale world war, crazy act of god etc....) I dont see oil spiking through the roof again, I think it will eventually begin to go back up but not at the exponential rate we saw. I laugh at all these people who took a bath with the knee jerk reactions when they dumped their big trucks/suv's because they thought the sky was falling...... just like the housing bubble or anything else that inflates that fast, there will be corrections.

I would suggest doing some thorough research, determine what type of vehicle suits your needs and then make your purchase.
