Humming noise from the rear

Hey all...I have an '04TL with about 16,000 miles. The tires are pretty much done for. I do not drive it hard. But now I also notice a humming noise in the rear of the car and its getting louder.

I was wondering if anyone else with similar mileage has noticed a humming noise....if so what actions did you take.

I have a sneaky suspicion it could be some rear bearings that are messed up.

Humming from the rear of vehicles is typically from the fuel pump. Does sound like an electical hum? The TL's are actually extremely quiet compared to other cars. Fuel pumps get louder as they get bad and many times its because people run the tank dry before filling up again and the filter becaomes ineffective. You probably don't have many miles on yours and if it is that noticeable i would have the dealership check it out.

I took it into the dealer today and they say its rear wheel bearings. They have the parts on order and will replace it under warranty.

Just FYI...the humming started at around 30mph and got louder up to about 50mph.
