if not used properly, cant it cause premature wear?

meaning, if you shift every couple of seconds, wouldnt that wear out the teeth? thats what i read on here.

and wouldnt it be better to let the auto do the downshifting (normal driving, not racing or anything) since it rev matches? not many people (who have never driven MT cars) know how to rev match.

oh and, i only use SS when i need it, such as cornering, upshifting when my tranny doesnt feel like it, etc... never in normal conditions.

upgrading from a 6th gen Accord--I really don't trust Honda automatic transmissions whatsoever.

**see any 6th gen web board or even consumer reports for 5th,6th,7th gen transmissions.

It probably would cause some extra wear, but who does that?

In any case, the weak point of the transmission is that it runs too hot. It has little to do with people shifting in SS mode all the time.

I can't say that i use SS mode much. Normally i'm just cruising in auto. The only times i will ever use SS mode is when i get the urge at a stop light or something. Not often...

haha yes you can slap it over while driving, you can even slap it over while on the gas, shifts over flawlessly, also when i shit down to first in ss mode my car blips the throttle automatically!! sounds badass, almost like a 6speed

I pretty much use it 100% of the time. I'm not really sure why though. I did it all of the time in my CL-S.

I don't do it to show off and kill my engine though, I use it to keep my revs down so I don't burn gas waiting for the car to shift. I catch my car cruising in 4th while I'm going 50 mph, and I just throw it in 5th using SS mode and it brings the revs down.

I drive 100% city and I got 23 miles per gallon last week...not bad I don't think

if your just cruising at 50, your car isnt going to be hangging around in 4th, it will be in 5th....

SS mode is not idiot proof.. that response irritates me.... BAD

YES you will hurt your tranny, the constant sudden surge in rpms produces an enormous amount of heat. And most important.. Acura trannies are h o r r i b l e.
To those who enjoyed a 2G..will understand.

And SS mode is a joke.... it's slow...extremely slow. The hesitation is unbearable for me, but then again I've spent my youth driving M/T.

I still only use SS to prevent gear jumping... my TL-S enjoys gear hunting tooo much.

Those that never drive in SS mode don't cuz they wanna keep there transmission intact.

When I fisrt got my CLs I ALWAYS used SS mode untill my first tranny went at 30K miles. Then on my second tranny i used it less , but still used it and that tranny went at 99k miles 69k on tranny, so now that im outta warrenty I never use it and my tranny feels great with 65 k on this tranny 164k on the car and I had the car since it had 5 miles on it..

whatever, the thing is idiot proof, i will say it again....the ony thing that the computer doesnt do for you is upshift....and that is why i say idiot proof, because your an idiot if you dont upshift at the correct time...

^ You'll be surprised how many people shift too late and hit a rev limiter.. To me it's like a kick in the balls. Ouch.

Sport Shift really is not sporty at all, like I hoped it would be, when I compromised my usual MT desires to please my wife. I actually use it more to upshift earlier to save fuel because it does linger in 4th too long like others have stated. I also keep it in SS-5th to keep it from downshifting for easy hills or leisurely passing to save fuel. But when I need to pass quickly, it is fun to flick it down a couple of gears and roar by. Hell, you can't save fuel all the time, you gotta have fun also.

The hesitation results in lazy shifting... Sometimes you need that oomph precision...and when you get a random delay, and then that sudden surge makes me feel like a dumbass.

But that's what I get for not waiting for a m/t.

depends on the slope of the road and your previous driving habits as to when it shifts into 5th. if youre going uphill, accelerating, or going downhill, it will hold a lower gear to give you more power/more engine braking. or if you're being a wreckless driver, it'll realize it and keep your rpm's higher/upshift less often (you'll notice that it will downshift early around a corner to prepare the next gear for quick acceleration again, otherwise, it lets the rpms drop).

for me, if i'm on a flat road and lazily accelerating, it'll kick into 5th at 48mph, but i can then slow down to 40 before it lugs and kicks back down to 4th. so, if i'm going 45 and dont think i'll get a chance to get up to 48 just to make it shift, i'll use the ss mode just to force it into 5th early, and it will stay there unless i go under 40. so the lazy upshift and downshift points for 5th are different. so you CAN be in 5th going 45, but if you hadnt hit 48 yet (or forced it with ss), you'll still be in 4th. did that make any sense? so if you hadnt guessed, i only use ss to force an upshift for better gas mileage (or to slow down a little in front of a tailgater... see if they're paying enough attention to tailgate). its just too slow and jerky to make it fun.

oh, and someone mentioned using ss to downshift to help you slow down in snow/ice? woa. just use your brakes. 4-wheel even braking is so much safer on ice than putting back pressure on just your front wheels... thats what makes your front wheels lose traction first and lose your ability to steer. same with the parking brake, but not as dangerous, you'll just fishtail a little and piss off your MID.

i think the ss mode was just something that everyone was doing, so they had to add it, even though its not as fun as it sounds. the cars that dont have it, they usually have lower gear choices anyway, like 3,2,1 under D. i used to use those in the same way (would pull the column shift down to 3 or 2 when going down a long hill and didnt wanna ride the brakes). good selling point anyway.

Erm, that's a lot of bullshit right there from the dealership!!! Your warranty cannot be voided because of a drop... They are trying to bend you over., and I can see they are successful.

awwwww man.... another btes the dust, they pulled a fast one on u buddy.... i'd go to another dealer and see what they say, and u shouldve questioned whoever told u that dropping ur car voids ur tranny warranty.... one has nothing to do with the other wahtsoever..... go fight for rights dude.

sounds like u have a serious tranny issue though and i advise u to get fixed asap

I have a question....when going to redline in SS mode, say coming out of first, you don't have to release the gas pedal, so as it approaces redline, you start upshifting, but I notice there's like a second lag which causes it to go past redline....so are you suppose to upshift like 500 rpm before redline?
