Lightbulb How much can I sell it for?

Hey guys!

Just wanted to get your suggestions/opinions on this. Unfortunately, I'll be selling me car probably within the next couple of months or so, but I would like to know how much I can get for it.

It's a 04 TL (New tires, getting new tranny next week and 105k service done at 110xxx). Right now the mileage is close to 116xxx and will be selling it around 120xxx.

It's costing me too much at the moment, as much as I would love to keep it but I can't afford it any longer (like i've mentioned in the other thread).

Any clues on how much I can get back. Should I sell it to a dealer or post it on auto-trader/craigslist. Any selling points I can use to get the most out of this?

Thanks and your input will be appreciated

selling outright rather than to a dealer you will almost always get more out of it.

If you sell to a dealer, you will really lose quite a bit, plus, they may not want to buy it as it's a high mileage car. It might wind up in the hands of a wholesaler.

If you sell, selling privately may get you some more money than the dealership will give you, but it am take a while to sell it.

Since your getting a new tranny in it, does it even make sense to sell? Would you be betterr off getting some use out of it for the next few years and then get something newer?

Just my opinion. I think you might not get a lot of money either way, but you have your reasons to sell.

yea but if he really wants to get rid of it, holding on to it will just add more mileage/wear/tear/age..

Autotrader.com cars.com etc. Ebay works, but it is a pain to deal with the non-paying bidders or the "Soo... when are you going to deliver my car to Bahrain for me? I bought it yesterday" not realizing it is their deal to work out shipping etc.

I would say you could probably get around 10K for it. I just bought an 05 TL for $10k at a Toyota dealer but that was a pretty good deal. It has a few issues- (had the power mirror/windshield washer issue- blown fuse, fixed $.50 thanks to AZ members) I planned on putting some money into it. But when I was shopping it was hard to find 3G TL's in decent shape for $10K.

My 2004 has 119k miles on it. With no navi and automatic transmission, KBB said it's worth around $10,500 retail. If you trade it in, don't expect to get much more than $8000.

^^^

What he said.

IMO, if you have new tires, new TB, new tranny I would think that most of the large expenses are out of the way. I would try to keep it. You're not going to get a good trade.

What are you replacing it with? And you better not say BMW.

if u r selling it, why even bother with all the maintenance and repairs? you are obviously not gonna increase the resale value that much with all those parts....

Thank you all!

^ Because it's the right thing to do I wouldn't want to sell it to anyone if it has problems or going to make the buyer spend even more on it (it just not cool; plain and simple )

And NO I HATE BMWS! I will never in my life purchase a BMW regardless of their looks, performance, or whatever!

If I do end up selling it, I might look into Ford Fusion or something similar... the whole point of selling the car is to save some money (on gas, maintenance, and etc) and headache!

Thanks again all, I'll checkout autotrader, craigslist and cars.com

I like the Fusions. Very nice cars. I've gotten a few of them as rentals. Are you going to buy new or used? I also recommend you look at the Kia Optima. I had one of those last week and really liked it.

For some perspective -

I am in the process of cleaning up my '05 AT non-nav with 118k miles with the intention of selling it.

Similar to your car, I did the 105k service at 110k, new tires this summer although my tranny is still good (I did the pressure switches and Redline D4 @ 70k miles).

Someone who owned it before me had gotten it into an accident but otherwise the carfax is fine and the car has driven well for the 3.5 years I've owned it.

I am shooting for around $8500. I would assume you could get at least that, if not 9-9500.

Cool, yeah I'm renting Ford Fusion at the moment and I like it!

I'm going to buy a new one if I do and then keep trading after couple of years or so. Well that's the plan and I'll also have to keep in mind the value of used ford cars (obv. they are not like Toyota).
