How many motor mounts we have?
Recently got a transmission rebuilt last month and I was told "5 out of the 8 mounts were damage" guy was trying to charge me 800 to fix which I decline.... Are there different Mounts for the transmission & engine? And if so how many we have? I rather buy the parts online for cheaper and have someone repair them... Thanks!

I just had all three of my motor mounts replaced just two weeks ago, so I can tell you about what they are.
FIRST OFF- this guy is lying to you. There are only THREE mounts on our 3G TLs:
#1 is in the very front of the main engine block (it's between the engine block and the radiator)
#2 is on the passenger side of the car, to the left of the engine block, near the windshield washer fluid funnel ("left" meaning the passenger side)
#3 supports the transmission (not really visible with the hood open, but it's below the engine block and behind towards the cabin, roughly under where you're car's center console would be).
#2 is super easy to replace- anyone can do it in a few minutes. #1 is more of a challenge because you have to remove the reservoir and other components that are tightly wedged around it. #3 is a nightmare- you have to lift the engine block out of the engine bay completely to be able to access it and seat it correctly, or you risk the transmission casing falling out of your car.
It sounds like this guy who quoted you ~$800 is trying to make it sound like he's cutting you some kind of deal, but obviously he's not because there are only THREE components to replace, not five. And whoever you get it worked through, ask to see the mounts after they remove them. It will give you piece of mind and help you know that they actually needed replacing. I asked to see all three of mine and they were completely destroyed, so it made me feel better about the money I spent to get it fixed.
Buy the parts online and get someone else to replace them. Dealers will always charge more in labor, and they markup the parts price as well. You can easily save a good $150-200 if you do this instead of taking it to a dealer and buying the parts on the spot through them.
Good luck!
