How many Gallons Does our Car HOld
#4
This info is excerpted from a very long thread I started about fuel tank capacities, etc. and is based on actual and precise testing
a. When the low fuel warning light comes on, if you are getting 25 mpg you can go 94 miles, but if you are only getting 20 mpg, you can only go 74 miles. Of course, other miles per gallon figures will result in different results. This means you have approximately 3.7 gallons remaining.
b. When “miles to empty” (2004TL) or “range” (2005TL) reads zero, that is time to fill up, but you can still go 57 miles at 25mpg, but only 45 miles at 20mpg. This means you have approximately 2.3 gallons remaining.
c. When filling the tank, if you stop at the first shutoff, you will have about 17 gallons in the tank.
d. The tank will actually hold about 19 gallons, but it is not recommended to fill the tank to capacity, so stop at the first shutoff.

so basically what your saying Ron...is that the MILES TO EMPTY thing is technically just a safeguard so you don't end up running out of gas? so when the MID's MILES TO EMPTY hits 0, i really have around 45-60 miles left to go?

For those people trying to fill the tank to fullest - stop at second click.
I was filling gas just before gas price all went crazy. I let pump do it's thing and it clicked first, I squeezed again and it stopped second, I squeezed again and it stopped third time. I pulled pump out of nozzle and I saw gas bubbling in the hole and spilled a tiny bit.

Not a Blowhole
I do not recommend "topping off" by overriding the auto shutoff pumps. You run the risk of saturating the charcoal vapor canister, and that is not a good thing. A gallon of less is not worth damaging your fuel vapor recovery system.

It's only half as bad as my wifes Suburban.... $100+.....
Whatever the cost, you live with it or walk...... and it's a "B" carrying car seats with kids in em..... :-)

^ A lot more goes into that question. I believe if there were no impurities between the xenons and the viewer the distance could be infinite.
As to the remark about the suburban, I recently learned the the Hummer H1 gets better milage by 4-5 mpg than the suburban.

Most would realize my response, as with Joed40's post, were meant to be humorous (though given "physics", correct). :-)
As for the Suburban "remark", the only correlation between it and an H1 would possibly be the similar size of gas capacity - (H1 would actually have ~42 gallons given two tanks).....???? I'm not sure why you brought that up....?
--As for the H1 getting better mileage than the Sub: You may want to "broaden your new knowledge...:-) Our 4wd Z71 Suburban consistently gets 14 City and 17.5 highway (and thats with a lead foot soccer mom at the helm). I have friends with H1's and they average 9/12 respectively (do a little research and you will find 8/10 averages)...... Now, the H2 does better (10/13) and the new H3 is pre-boasting 16/19..... Considering the H3 is smaller and using a straight/in-line six cylinder with less functionality than a Suburban,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Does anyone else thing the Hummer is a waste for the private sector etc. Besides the "bling-bling" factor which I still wouldn't buy one for, it's looks and use are near worthless for the typical suburbia assault needs.....???
Sorry Ron/moderators.... I digress into rambling territory....

when the individuals are GM were developing the H2 they sat around a board meeting and said "boys, I like the Hummer... but can we make it gay??" - "well i dont know sir... making things gay these days isnt easy, it takes planning and money" - "well, try neway... America NEEDS a gay SUV!".
And thus on the 7th day of the 7th month the gayest SUV in all the land was made.. and her name WAS H2!!
And then not soon after the same men sat around that very same table and said "Men... the H2 isnt quite gay enough... can we make it gayer??" - "I dont know sir.. gayer, isnt that even possible??" - "do it boys, America NEEDS a gayer SUV!"
And thus THE H3 WAS BORN.
Thats my rendition of how things went down at GM

I know, I was kidding around too. I didn't look into the h1, so sorry if my data was wrong, I just heard that somewhere. As to it being a waste to the private sector, that is true in most cases. I personally love the H1, and if/when I got/get it would take it off roading(I like mountain biking, hey I don't have a licence). I love the feeling of being completely protected, of false invincibility, I suppose I could just drink, and that would probably cost less. As for the H2, that is complete crap and I would rather have a wrangler. The H1 Alpha has a 25 gallon main tank and a 17 gallon aux tank. If this forum is still around in 30 years I'll post pics of my H1 and my 9th gen TL.

I new it was an inline engine and figured it was the same 4.2L inline six that GMC has been using in the "Envoy"..
