How long does it take?
How long does it take?
My parents are worrying me by saying the whole purchase process can take a little while. If we go in on saturday, as planned I would like to know how long it will take to have everything done assuming the dealer isnt crowded.
The following is what needs to get done:
1. Negotiation(max 33,500 5at navi, all season mats before tax and title)
2. Payment work out
a. Possible loan(not sure how large a difference that makes)
3. Insurance company notification
4. Licence and registration(probably new)
5. Possible ford taurus trade in
6. Walk around inspection drive out(according to their web site they have 10 eb anth nav 5ats, but I have only varified they have 3, but the point is they WILL have them on the lot when we buy)
This can all be done in under 5 hourse, correct? My parents think they may simply not have enough time in the day.

I think it's possible but I would definitely negotiate on price with the dealer via email before going to the lot. I had a price negotiated before I even walked in the dealership.
I arrived around noon, took a 15 minute test drive, traded in my old car, did all the paperwork etc (that took the longest by far), checked out the new car, and was driving home by 4:00 PM.

When we bought ours, we went in at about 10:30 AM, test drove 2 cars, agreed on price quickly, cash transaction, no insurance issues here in California, (you just have to show that you have insurance). Got the car detailed, and had to change out one tire; we left there at about 3:00. We had an appointment with our dealer, and he was waiting for us. It seemed like an awfully long day, but nobody seemed to be dragging their feet. Our test drives were nice and long, plenty of time to decide which car we wanted.
I agree with negotiating the price beforehand over the internet. Also, check out Edmunds.com for pricing. Also, you are much better off selling your car on your own. We used craigslist.com to do that and ours sold in less than one day. No charge to list on Craigslist, check to see if you have it in your area.

It shouldn't take that long maybe at least 3 hours. Trade may take a bit and make sure you get the most out of the car! I suggest you negotiate the TL before the trade in of your Taurus. They can try ripping you off. Make sure you print out the KBB info. Financial approval may take 10 minutes and about 15 - 25 minutes in the business office. I spent a total of 3 hours. Went in a 9am (test drove, negotiated price, approval for AHC) left at 10:30 am or so. Left for work and went in around 4:30 to finish up paperwork, walk through of vehicle, etc left around 6. Good Luck!
We had a strange day when we bought the TL. It was the day before Thanksgiving last Fall and we happened to find two deals we wanted to jump on. So we got up early that day and washed and vacuumed/dusted our 4Runner, packed up the two kids and drove to the local Honda dealership where we'd found a 2003 GMC Yukon that fit our needs with only 40k miles.
We arrived at the Honda place and had to do some negotiating to get the price we wanted for our trade-in (4Runner) and the Yukon. We were paying cash, so the financing part was quick, and we were on the road to the Acura dealer by about 1:30 or 2:00. When we arrived at the Acura dealer, they were expecting us as I had called the previous day to set up an appointment and let them know I would be buying the CPO TL I saw they had (2004 with 8k miles), if everything goes well.
On the way to the Acura dealer, which was about an hour from home, the kids were getting pretty tired of the car-buying shuffle, so we called my folks who live near the Acura dealership and they came and picked up the kids when we got there. We drove the car and gave it a good look-over and began the negotiation process around 6:00 or so. After some back-and-forth and us getting up to leave, they gave us our price around 8:30. Again, we weren't financing so we were out of there with the new car around 9:30 or so.
So, you can buy two new cars in a single day.

Alright, I'm getting my hopes up. The dealer is literally a 5 minute drive(if that) from my house. I will probably make an appointment in advance. I don't know if my mother is going to test drive it, although she probably will(my father already has and he finally admitted to her he liked it, he had stayed quiet about it in hopes she wouldnt go spending their money). The dealer has varified they have 3 of the combo we want in stock(web shows 10, but not sure on that) so I figure we will do a walk around, and maybe drive it 2-3 miles to make sure their is nothing wrong. I really hope it goes down this weekend, it probably will.

I walked into the dealer ( Cerritos Acura ) with my own financing and without making any prior phone calls or emails the whole process including the test drives took less than 1hr & 30min. I knew those guys were in the auto bussiness for awhile because they were extremely quick and efficient. There was no such comments as "im cant seem to find this form", "my computer is acting up" etc. I was just escorted from one department to the next without any delays.
Call the dealer in advance and talk directly to the sales manager....tell him you don't want to waste your day buying the car and the transaction needs to be completed in one hour or less. If the model you want is available...tell him you want it detailed, full of gas and parked out front ready for the test drive and final transaction. My purchase the dealer handed me the keys and said...come back sometime this week to work out the details. The price was handed to me on a piece of paper. I paid for the car three days later.
I never buy a car in one day. It shows that you're excited and trying to buy today; you're throwing away your leverage.
When I got my TL-S, it took over a week before the papers were signed. But what I got in return was a price that no other dealerships in Southeastern Michigan wanted to compete with. Patience is a virtue, especially when making $30k+ financial decisions. And especially when you're thinking of trading in a car.

Sounds like you can get that all done quick but if I not, then you got to suffer until Monday, good luck.
You may want to call the dealer and ask them. I went in and negotiated price with my sales person on the 1st visit and he said they that they always have a seperate day to deliver the car so you are not at the dealer for a long time. It was actually better I think. The 1st visit I was there maybe an hour and the second visit when I took delivery and got the financing squared away was about 2 hours. So call the dealer and ask them.
Oh forgot to add the I had a good idea of price before I went the 1st time. I used the internet to make an informed decision.

Why such a rush anyway? Oh and tell your dad to leave you at home when he goes to get the car. The overly excited kid is a dealers dream. "Dad, oh, we gotta get it dad."
I did two days of negotiation on my car, went in the first day, test drove, the salesman gave me a base price, I said I'd think about it, and left. he called me the next day with a lower price, I countered with an even lower price, we settled on a number, I came back in, worked out financing, came in two days later, to pick up my freshly detailed car.
You don't want to rush the dealer, let them take there time to make sure they get everything.
well then again if you know what you are talking about and get your price you do not need it to take a week. You offer a price and leave. They can call you back when they want to deal... make sure they get a number they cannot reach you at...
I do not have the time nor the inclination to do the dance with the dealer. This is what the car is worth and I tell them to think it over and call me back. I will go on to another dealer..

yeah, but from crazymjb was saying, he wants to do the WHOLE process, going into the dealer for the first time, test drive, negotion, finance, trade, insurance, inspecion sticker, registration, plates, etc, EVERYTHING in 5 hours.

I would go crazy if I spent 5 hours there. lol... They know what they can sell the car for before you even go in. Most will say they need to make 500 over invoice. Sure maybe a better deal can be had depending on the circumstances...
But if you know a 35,000 car has a 32,000 invoice.. you know they should accept 32500 with no problems... What happens from there well... that's up to a number of factors... The bottom line price with no trade is what you are looking for.
And besides crazy cannot buy a car his dad or mom will and I am sure they have done that before. This might be the first time he is interested in the deal since he figures he will get to drive it.
well crazy. it will cost about 1200 to insure it depending on where you live in ma and probably another 1200 for a inexperienced occasional driver. But take hear since the insurance costs for you could be 4 x of an experience driver with 6+ years of experience at a step 9. My camry was 600 to insure in 96 and when my kids got their license I was going to give them the car and insure it in their names. The cost was going to be 2300 when it was only 600 for me.

Sounds like you're pretty excited about your new car....as you should be. There is nothing in life like getting a new car......it's one of lifes great pleasures. Have fun....enjoy your(parents) new car...and remember the feeling of a new car...it's GREAT!!! Be safe and take good care of your baby.
Its possible. But depends on the traffic they have that day, there are only so many finance people and if there are more people that want to buy cars sometimes there is a wait. And i would ask them to start prepping the car once you have decided on a price. THat is what always has me waiting.
In and out in 90 minutes... that's with two people ahead of me in finance.
When I arrived at the dealership, my car was already waiting for me right in front of the showroom. It had a big "SOLD" sticker in the window with my name on it (talk about the WOW factor)
The price and terms were already worked out in advance even before stepping foot onto the lot, all negotiated by email. I actually never drove this particular car before driving it off the lot for the first time (I do not recommend anyone else do that... I know its dumb, but I was in a hurry, and fortunately everything has been perfect so far... please don't comment or start a massive thread on how dumb I was. I already know)
And don't forget, agree on the price of the Acura before talking about trade in. Know what you're willing to pay and what you want for your trade before going in there. Do your homework. Don't be afraid to walk away.

I made my deal on my 05 Acura TL Navi A-spec (A-spec'd after the purchase) In less than 40 minutes total time.
Literally told them what I wanted, that I had an issue at another dealership because they didnt have my color (BS) and that they need to do it right now and I'll drop a check and we'll be done.

Get a firm price on what you would like to pay for the car. If the dealer can not meet your price, then just walk out and go to other dealers that does. Best yet, send an email or talk to the sale manager on the phone first inquiry about the specific car, models, options, and tell them the price you would like to pay, and wait for their reply. Send this to at least 3 dealers around you, and make sure to let them know whoever agree to pay for your asking price or lower will win your business.
I were in and out of the dealer for less than 2 hours to complete all the paperworks and detail the car.
Good luck!

I think we should be able to get a good deal. Acura of Boston is the biggest dealer in the area(which can be bad, since they don't need to try incredeably hard) however family and friends who I have talked to have all had great experiences there, and they are under 5 miles away. I talked to my parents and we will go no higher than 33,500, although will start at 32,800(I dont want to go so low that they think we are stupid and have no idea how much this thing really costs) with included all season mats and possibly mud guards and the trunk liner.
I am gonna try to find a revive an old thread about the dealership

But you can't make assumptions about the dealership solely based on that, because some dealerships sell large volumes by being pushy, whereas others simply sell a lot by being a good dealership and earning more business by word-of-mouth.
So you will have to get a feel for their sales tactics and decide what kind of negotiation tactics you should use. www.edmunds.com has GREAT articles on car-buying tips. Check it out.
