How likely to get pulled over on TL?
How likely to get pulled over on TL?
I've seen so many civics, celicas, preludes, etc etc get pulled over here in socal, and less of those pickup/SUV or family looking car. One time a pickup flew from behind, cut the guy on my rear left and pushed the car hard. CHP chased him from the ramp but only followed the guy for a few miles and didn't even stop him. That guy was driving about 90mph.
Question is, how likely will a TL get pulled over since it is sporty, yet also a sedan type. I used to get pulled over so many times on my celica and for no reason (75 on 65mph etc). Any So Cal experience with the CHP?

A couple of years back before my TL, I had a 97' Civic coupe abd i was younger. I got pulled over for so many stupid reasons like, your car is to low, whats % tint, you need to replace your license cover. I think its the car and the way it is being driven. So far I got pulled over once in TL, his motive "I saw blue lights on under the car, I told him that it was the HID, then he realized there are no lights he says nothing and leaves.
i had crx as my first car and got pull over for loud music, exhuast, not having front license plate. BTW it was 3 different times. so i sold the car and got a prelude. got pull over for exhuast, tint, and blue corner lights and signals. he actually made pull up my windows to look at the tint with his flashlight and made me to put emergeny lights on to look at the color of the bulbs.
i sold it and i got blue 99 civic si when it first came out. got stollen in the 2nd month, found it stripped shell in inglewood.
finally got 01 CL and nobody pulled me over since i didn`t do much to the looks.
wanted a TL so bad so traded it in! so far not got pulled over by the CHP!
i have limo tint all around with smoked tail lights. we will see if i get a ticket!

I get stopped so many times by the CHP on my 2K celica and all I have is short-ram intake, exhaust, 1.5-2" drop. So far with my TL, i have not even get a look from the sheriff. When i was on my celica, i can see that they're glancing at me and see if I look like the "trouble" kind.
I've had one speeding ticket in my life so I usually behave in the road. 2 weeks after I got my TL I was pulled over for speeding. It was my fault and I was going 64 in a 50 and didn't pay attention to how fast the car gets away from me. I still have my temp plates on so he gave me a break and just gave me a ticket for invalid plates which do not affect insurance. It is also Redondo Red Pearl and red cars have this story about getting pulled over more often than any other color. However, this was at 1AM so he couldn't tell the color. I just think this car has so much horsepower that even trying to behave on the roads can cause tickets. I really have to pay attention to the speedometer from now on!

I've lived in Southern California for more years than I care to admit. In my experience, getting stopped is the result of two things. Number one is driving in a way that "stands out" - meaning that someone observing the stream of traffic notices you before they notice anyone else. As an example, you are making more progress than the others by going faster and using multiple lane changes in order to do it. We call that kind of driving "yelling for a cop".
The second influence is the age of the driver and the type of car. The police will adamently deny that but I don't care. I was once a young male in SoCal and I lived the experience. They pay a lot more attention to the young drivers and less so to the old farts. And don't let anyone tell you different.
So, IMHO, if you want to minimize your exposure, do two things. First, fall into the stream of traffic and move along at pretty much the pace of everybody else. (That's asking a lot, I know.) Second, don't go too wild in customizing your ride. As far as being young, I can't help you there. Time will cure that.
Good luck out there. If you see a middle aged gent driving an anthracite TL on the 405 in the second lane and moving with the flow, wave. It's probably me.

Maaaan I am so less likely to get pulled in this car! I got pulled weekly when I was young. Had an 89 stanza with tints/lowered/rims yeah ghey but i baught it off my uncle. They used to pull me for really stupid reasons ... tint, licence plate covers bogus speeding charges etc ...
Now i have flown past cops KNOWING i am caught and they dont come after me! No complaints!

This is not meant to be an age bashing post, but if we were to have a poll by age on how many people here have been pulled over in their TL's, the results would probably skew in one direction of which age group gets pulled over.
Based on that, it is not a reflection of the car IMO, but possibly the way the car is driven (i.e, wonder if there is an age discrepancy of people who create threads like "I smoked/got smoked by a <insert car brand name here> today.")
Again, not age bashing, but that is why insurance rates are so much different between age groups.

Well, I actually talked to a policeman at church about this. I asked him how likely it was that I was gonna get pulled over and if it was a cop magnet. He told me that it wasn't likely that, unless I was speeding, I was going to be pestured by cops. His reasoning was that it is a kind of higher class car and less of a likely hood a punk kid(like me) would be driving it. I don't have a front license plate and have never driven with one on and have yet to be pulled over for it. I was pulled over twice for speeding(hardly over the limit - 9), but both times the policeman did not shoot me with radar or laser, therefore the ticket was void because it had no proof(I argued it).

too easily,
2 speed ticket in one year.
One ticket, 81 in 55 - ticket reduced to 0 points $110 fine
2nd ticket, 52 in a 35, ticket not reduced, assuming 4 points.
Both times, radar was not used and the passport 8500 could not save me.

got a 99 accord coupe...1 speeding ticket.
got a 01 330 never pulled over, and tints all around..I think i sped way more in that car.
04 tl, had it for a year now, haven't been stop yet. (knoock on wood)
I will be mad as hell if I leave work today and get pulled over. Or it could mean they read acura-tl too and are messin with me.
I think it also depends on where you are. If you're on a highway speeding cops "discriminate" sure to an extent, but if you're speeding regardless of what kind of car you're in you'll probably be pulled over.
However, if you're driving around locally in my case a WRX w/tinted windows you get pulled over for not stopping at a Stop sign when I know damn well I stopped because I saw the cop sitting there!! Rightfully so I didn't get a ticket, but it was the point that I knew he pulled me over because of my car...had I been in a "classy" TL this would never of happened.

No more likely to be pulled over in TL than most other cars. Most vehicle stops are commenced based upon suspicious operation, ie constant cruising same area or neighborhood. Things like dark tinted windows always raise some interest. Speeding, erratic driving, illegal or careless or unsignaled lane changes all cause a vehicle to gain Officers attention, much more so than make or model.
Why do I think this is a stupid topic? You aren't going to get pulled over in a TL as easily because I could tell about 75% of TL's (especially 3g's) on the road are bone stock and not likely to be noticed easily by cops. There are so many TL's and other cars in the same class (BMW 3-series, Audi A4, Mercedes Benz C-class, Nissan Maxima, Infiniti G35, etc) that have the same appearance that a random cop isn't going to go, ''wow, look at that NBP TL driving along with the minivan and Dodge Ram, let's pull him over.'' The car simply doesn't have a ton of shock value. Unless you have underbody neons, 20 inch rims, blinking corner lights, and a loud-ass Greedy exhaust, that shouldn't even be an issue. It's not like the car has an overly loud stock exhaust note like an American muscle or Nissan Z, either.
Our cars aren't rice, and thank god for that.

sure it is dum... There are more ramblings on here for teh sake of rambling than anything else.
We got people complaining about how they cannot drive, what career change they shold entertain, etc etc...
It is just a car if you think it is something else and need people's acceptance or new apreciattion for something then you have more problems than a car can solve for you..

A traffic court clerk told me this trick IF you are ticketed for speeding.
Of course we all should and usually do obey all posted speed limits and traffic laws... However on the off chance that you are ticketed, here is what to do to avoid points and an insurance adjustment.
1- Plead guilty and sign the ticket.
2- Pay your fine but... put in a little extra.
Your fine is $160 you send a check for $168.
3- what happens next varies by stay and municipality; what should happen is the court will accept your guilty plea, cash your check and issue a refund check for the over payment.
4- put the $8 check in your drawer and FORGEDABOUTIT !!!!
5- Your docket will remain open as long as the over payment check remains un-cashed. Yet the fine is paid in full.
6- As long as it remains opened it should not be reported to the Licensing bureau for points and your insurance company.
A small price to pay to avoid a big hit on insurance.... Now drive safe and drive smart!

Haha, that's interesting... I remember some tickets say "do not over-pay"...
(In 1997, I once over-paid a few bucks in one ticket of NY, however, I never never got any refund back... I got points though...)
Actually, I'm also confused whether or not all tickets would be sent back to my DMV. I had two tickets issued in East PA (north of Pittsburgh) (2002, 2004) which never return to my DMVs...

I think you're much better off just getting a lawyer and getting the ticket "fixed". When I got a speeding ticket here in Missouri last year, I used the site MissouriTrafficTickets.com (which is a division of USTrafficTickets.com for those in other states) and they got my speeding ticket (50 in a 35) knocked down to a defective equipment non-moving violation, the ticket cost me $170 instead of $105 and I think my attorney fees were like $75 and I was just able to pay by credit card (you pay the lawyer and they pay the fine). Needless to say, the extra $140 I thought was well worth it to not have to worry about the points or my insurance going up. Oh, and for me at least the whole process took all of a week (they said it could take much longer, so that was a bit of a pleasant surprise).

What's up guys this is my 1st time writing on tha site... well I'm in nyc where tha cops basically pick and choose who they wanna pull over and most of tha time its the younger crowd who drive bubble civics, integras and just coupes..... I got pulled over once for my tints (20%) all around when I owned my 02 accord coupe but got off tha hook cuz imma medic in tha fdny but still haven't been pulled over since I owned my 04 TL.... I been told by cops that out here they don't care much for tha back windows being tinted but as long as tha 2 front aren't due 2 their safety which is pretty understandable in nyc.....
Just my
Just my
I got pulled over only once with my TL in 1 year of usage, but that was on the first week I bought the car
I was tired and was at 2h from home and it was 3AM. I decided to test my new car on the HighWay, down shifted and stoped my crusing speed at 180km/h ~112mph few minutes later I got ZAPPED and pulled over. That was my worst ticket ever but I never got pulled over again with my lovely TL. All the lights on the car are modified and I even got WHITE corner flashers.
Its simple the police dont even look at me. If they do, they're lookin at my car cause they find it attractive....
I guess thats all gonna change when I'll receive my Chromed RIMS soon.
that was my short story

I already did this experiment....
On the same highway on the way to work, in my FX 35 (suv) I did 75-80mph in the left lane everyday on the way to work, not one cop has pulled me over, while they are sitting on the shoulder....speed limit is 50mph
In the TL-S, they go for me while I'm doing the speed limit 50mph, and of course they start with my tints, which are 35%.... in My 00-TL with a drop, kit, rims, dark tints, exhaust, I was getting pulled over for driving fast while standing at a red light..go figure...
Cops hate fast sporty cars

around my way...just drive this

I got pulled over CONSTANTLY in this car. No loud ass exhaust (Apex'i world sport), no dark ass tint (35%), but this car gleaned SO MUCH attention from the local and state authorities. It was crazy cuz half the time they didn't even know what it was. I rarely got ticketed, but i was challenged on the "legality" of my mods on many an occasion...man i miss my baby..but the TL more than makes up for the loss..
Sorry for the Whoring...i know it's not a TL, but with heads talking about what they used to get pulled over in, i couldn't resist...
