How important is the warranty when purchasing used vehicles?
So I'm really considering importing a TLS to Canada. Despite the fact that the warranty is void in Canada, a lot of people here seem to be doing it. I'm wondering what these people do for a warranty. Do they purchase an after-market warranty?
Does anyone know of any good places to get an after-market warranty? I remember reading about complaints from many companies that provide these warranties...
I know a lot of people discourage importing Acura vehicles, but I just see so many Canadians doing it... So I'm thinking why shouldn't I if I've found the vehicle I want.
Also, is it a bad idea to purchase a vehicle in the States since the Canadian dollar isn't that much stronger than the US dollar?
Your opinions would be much appreciated, thanks!

Buying a warranty is kind of like buying lottery tickets or playing blackjack in Vegas. Odds are that you're going to lose but there's a chance you could win. I buy Honda/Acura products because they have a history of lasting a long time with minimal problems. Warranties usually only wind up being worthwhile if your engine or transmission needs replacing. I just make sure I know the vehicles history and ensure that it's been adult driven and properly maintained. My TL-S has 123,000 miles on it and everything is fine. A couple grand for a warranty would have been wasted for me with the miles I have on the car.
I asked a similar thing before I bought my TL (earlier this year and without the Canada issue) and most people suggested that they would not buy an extended warranty. But the consensus of folks I heard from also said that if you could afford it, it can't hurt. I ended up getting the Acura warranty, it was another $900 and I could afford it so I figured what the heck. There are so many moving things on this car that it could come in handy. If I had to do it over, I'd probably skip out on the warranty.
So in essence, I think that its nice to have if you don't mind dropping the money, but it would probably be more fun to use that money and buy new rims, kit, mods, etc...
