How to get replacement key and how long?
Son just locked my only set of TL keys in the trunk of the car. How fast can a dealer make a new set of keys from the VIN? I guess they'll want to see the title to make it?
Thanks.

hey man. same thing happened to me about a month ago. just call ure dealer and give them ure vin number. they will make a key and you can pick it up within the hour. you dont need a title or anything. the key they make will not start the car, it will only unlock it.

To get a key to run the car you have to take the car to the dealer where they will program the key to work in the ignition. for you i guess this means a tow truck.....

OR................................................ ..............
A key that works in the LOCK to unlock the door, which doesnt require an immobilizer to be programmed. Then he can GET his key!
ROCKET SCIENCE!

I was right, my keys were in the trunk. I was moving junk around in there after I got out of the car and when I couldn't find them I suspected that was where they were.
I called the AAA guy and he got the door open for me. I gotta get another key, though. Evidently, I have to get the car to the dealer to get one programmed, and that would have meant a tow if I didn't find my key. I'm ordering a second key today.

Didn't your car come with three keys? Two regular keys and one valet key? The cost to purchase a new key that will start the engine is pretty steep, but one that will just open the doors can be made at a local hardware store.
A good one about keys. I asked my wife to get something out of the truck for me when she was going out to the garage. She came back in with a really puzzled look on her face and siad that she could not figure out how to unlock the trunk since there was no place to insert the key and did not have the remote with her.....

I got the car used and it only came with one set of keys. Gotta get another one just to be safe. This scared me. Happens just before a long business trip and I'm screwed.

If you're not in a big hurry I recommend you look at the 2007 switchblade key thread. You can get a 2007-style switchblade key to work with your 2004-2006 TL. It's super-cool, and in my experience anyway, ended up costing less than a 2004-2006 immobilizer/fob combo.
The thread I'm referring you to is something like 36 pages long, so buckle up for a long read. Don't worry, the only really important information is found on page 1 and 2 of the thread.

Wanna really screw her up - do the shaved door lock mod thingy.....then tell her to go unlock the drivers door !!!
