How to fix surface scratch

I have a 2 inch long surface scratch on my silver TL. It looks like it's just on the outer coating and did not get the color. How can I fix this? Or if I should go to the professionals, where should I go?

I got a couple rock chips on my new TL last week. I found alot of information by using the search feature here and at autopia.org

All the best,

how deep is the scratch? even it's just on the outer coating (clear coat) but if it's too deep, then you can't do much beside re-paint or live with it. We just have 2nd detail class from Meguiars in So Cal today and what we learn is the clear coat is typical range 1mm-2mm thick which is not much material to work with. To be able to remove scratch out of paint surface (clear coat), we have to remove all the paint (clear coat) around the scratch until it level out with the deepest part of the scratch. If the scratch is not that much deeper than normal swirls, then you can buff out yourself either using ScratchX by hand (might need to apply several times) or using DA (Dual action polish) machine with scratch removal (From Meguiars product line: ScratchX, #80, or #83)
Here is the before pic of swirls from one of the member who attend the class today:

After apply #83 with DA: Half of the hood on the left is untouch, Half of the hood on the right was work with DA and by hand.

Can you see the tape line that we just tape for reference? and the almost no swirls below area?

Thanks for the informative post Huy (LacViet).

Unfortunately, this type of thread belongs in the global Wash & Wax forum.

Since I cannot move threads across forums, please feel free to repost there. I would think there should be a wealth of information there already concerning scratches. A search within that forum should bring up many threads.

Good luck!
