how to fix squeaking Brembos.
how to fix squeaking Brembos.
i know a few of us here with 6MTs have the occasional problem of squeaking brembo brakes. well, here's a little tidbit. BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS!!
I AM NOT CONDONING ANYONE FROM DOING THE FOLLOWING, TO EACH HIS OWN!!
my .02:
find an open road, or an empty parking lot, particularly one where you could get up to speed maybe 40 - 45 mph, and make sure NO ONE IS FOLLOWING YOU!! slowly depress the brakes to create the squeal -- once a squeal is heard, hit the brakes hard to a stop. this will eliminate the noise.
the squealing brakes are caused by dirt and/or debris that get stuck between the rotors and the brake pads, hitting the brakes hard helps eliminate the dirt and/or debris quicker.
this trick has worked for me several times. however, its not the ultimate fix. if you think about it, we can never really eliminate this problem -- because chances are, your brakes will get dirt and debris every time you drive your car!!

This is what I found on a BMW site (regarding squealing BREMBOS)
...BMW noted that deceleration from lower speeds, such as city driving, does not allow the material to be as hot as braking from high speeds. Thus, the pads become harder (at the very near outer area), causing squealing.
BUT, you NEED to do some MODESTLY vigorous braking now and then to reduce, or eliminate squealing. Speed to produce the right temperatures is important here, not just braking hard from 30mph! In fact, you don't need to brake very hard. You need those linings to HEAT UP, from MEDIUM hard braking, maybe from 70 mph to near zero...
Along a similar note, I found other comments that indicated that if the brakes aren't brought up to operating temp sufficiently, it contributes to the unsightly brake dust. Apparently this has something to do with the chemical composition of the pad material. Seems the BREMBOS are designed for higher than 'normal' operating temperatures for the best results (or lessened effects of noise/dust).
Worth a try. That's part of the fringe benefits of the 6MT / Brembo upgrade - they make you drive your TL in a 'spirited' manner. I'm all for that. "honest officer - I'm merely trying to maintain my brakes"

It's really not necessary....
My Brembos squealed right around 3,000 miles until about 4,500. It will go away, trust me. I don't think it is dirt, but rather the brake pads bedding themselves. I'm at 10K+ miles now and haven't heard anything since.
I do agree that by doing some hard braking will elliminate the squealing noise, because that will bed the pads faster and put the rotors through a heat cycle.

There is a TSB out for this with Acura service. ALso, I've read on this forum that this TSB was voided again. However, I got my pads replaced by dealer as per this TSB. These pads are pretty expensive. Had 11K miles and getting $390 pads for free is a good fix
. Talk to your service adviser for TSB and he/she might change yours too.

Yanno, could always apply WD-40
Kidding obviously, don't try this at home kids. This kind of foolery isn't totally unheard of; there was some guy on one of the VW boards who'd painted his rotors.
Just so my post isn't COMPLETELY worthless, other Brembo-equipped cars have the same problem (I know it's fairly common on 350zs and G35s with Brembos).

Is it true that Brembo pads cost $390.00 to replace?? That seems pretty high for pads. I'm just curious since my Brembo's don't squeal because I bedded them in properly right after I purchased the car and they've been perfect ever since...I'm now at 3000+ miles and haven't heard a squeal ever! I'm just a little concerned about the cost of pads for future maintenance.

My Brembos squealed occasionally until I autocrossed it at a high speed Porsche Club event. After my 3rd run (each with 3 high-speed brake applications and a full-stop from nearly 160 km/h), the pads were properly bedded-in (I could tell because they stopped smoking). No squealing since then, although the brake dust is still an issue.

Almost 20K miles, maybe you've worn out your pads?
