Short answer- SAE standards measuring HP were changed, but the TL's engine did not. The 2004s were rated at 270, while the 2005-2006 TLs with exact same engine are rated at 258. I think my 2005 brochure still says 270.
You'll note that change in a number of other cars as well-- some went up slightly, some went down.
