how far would you drive for a car you liked?

Right now I'm looking at almost a 400 mile drive. For an 04 TL with NAV, 6spd.

I"m thinking it's a tad bit far and I have to rent a car to get there.. Buy the car etc then drop the rental at a nearby place. I've yet to even drive the car, what if it turns out to be a dud. That's almost 800 miles for nothing.

I remember in highschool my friend went 1200 miles to buy his type-r integra, but that car is kinda rare.

400 miles isn't bad, i would try to make a day of it, find some tourist spots or plan something to do so if the car doesn't work out you didnt' waste your time completely.

Is it a really good deal? Or just really hard to find 6 speed with navi where you are?

FYI, I used to work for dollar-thrifty rental car and a one-way rental is always more expensive. Usually 130-150 more.

See if you can find a buddy to take a road trip with. Entice him with paying for gas and food. It worked for me when I drove from Va to Nj to get my Denali.

Just to check out a car? idk.. ask if there is an Aziner in the area who can check it out for you. If you're serious about buying it then I would.. and bring your girl or a bud.. spend the weekend in the area.. find some cool stuff to do over there or in between.. That's only a 5 hr drive.

pay for the owner to take it to the dealer and have it inspected. Should only be about 100. This will also help you in negotiations if it gets to that point.

I flew from Indianapolis to Las Vegas to get my TL. We met at the airport, took care of payment and paperwork. I put my TL in storage in Las Vegas (since it was winter and lots of snow in Indiana) and flew back to Vegas in the summer and drove it back home to Indiana. Must say it was the best damn road trip I ever took.

I would drive 884 miles.....

My last TL I bought in Dallas and had shipped down to fort lauderdale florida and it worked out great for me I hired an inspection service to check out the car for me.

It cost me like 60-75 for the inspection service but they send me a video walk through of the interior and exterior of the car showing any cosmetic flaws and then inspected the car mechanically.

I drove almost 800 miles for my Type S because I got a hell of a deal compared to what they were selling for here. I had the independent dealer take it to an Acura dealer to have it checked out first and when it passed with flying colors, I flew out then drove it home. Took the first flight out and was back home that same night. Paid $100 for the pre-purchase inspection. Totally worth it and what a great road trip back.

Get the dealer to check it out before you go. I bought my wifes lexus in FL and I had inspected and then had them ship it to me. It was exactly as they had said....perfect!

If it is a good deal and the car you want just do it. 400 miles isn't going to make you or break you.

Hey if it gets you the car you want then it will be worth it. If you settle for a auto thats closer chances are you will regret not going to look at the 6sp. Im sure you can convince someone to go on a road trip with you.

I flew from Little Rock to Dallas to get mine (about 4 hours). I bought it on eBay and had 52 great pictures to look at first. We camped out in the Embassy Suites for a night. Then drove home and happend to catch a buddy's funeral (wedding). Added about $4-500 to the total cost. Well worth it for my TL.

My answer 352.4 miles.

One way Car rental 102.86
Gas ~80
5 hours there, 5 hours to check out the, go bank, fill out paper work, smog etc.

5 hour drive back in my TL - priceless
Opening my door and seeing my TL - priceless
Driving the 6spd MT - priceless

lots of hours and extra costs, almost pulled the trigger on an auto but just made a decision to drive there and get it.
