How to decode gearbox from VIN
How to decode gearbox from VIN
Hello Guys,
that's my first post in this TL's forum
So, I'm looking to buy Acura TL 2004+ in salvage auction and sometimes I can't see in photos gearbox is AT or MT. Is possibility to decode gearbox type from VIN?
Mostly auctions gives only 10 number of VIN, so I can't to use ONLINE vin decoder.
Thanks
Best Regards from Lithuania

In this illustration19U UA6 5 5 * 4 A 000001
7th digit: 5 for 6 speed, 6 for 5 spd. Automatic (kind of backwards)
8th digit: 2 for A/T, 5 for 6 spd. M/T, 6 for 6 spd. M/T with hi-per tire option
The complete VIN is explained in this thread.
If you don't have enough of the VIN you might not be able to find out, but if you get 10 digits, as you said, then that should be enough to tell you if it is auto or manual.
Welcome to the forum, and good luck in your search for a TL.
