How to change Air filter?

Hi,

I tried to change the air filter today, but had troubles.
I took out the 4 screws that hold it in place, but then it was impossible to bring the top up to take a look a the air filter.
Any hints?

thanks

The Service Manual says to;

1. Open the air cleaner housing cover and remove the clamps.

(the two clamps are on a piece of plastic conduit which runs from the
fuse box to the positive battery terminal.. the clamps afix this conduit to the housing)

2. Remove the air cleaner from the air cleaner housing.

3. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

often you will have to yank and manipulate the top part of the a/f housing to get the filter out to either change it or take a peak at it. if all else fails for whatever reason, loosen the throttle body clamp and just remove the entire top part of the system.

I remove the plastic piece that runs along the edge of the engine compartment (driver side). This allows the air-cleaner box cover to come up. The long plastic piece is afixed by two screws.
