House paint spilled on Bumper cover - Help!!
This group can give me the guidance I need. I got some house paint on the front end of my SSM 05 TL when I pulled into the garage and bumped a can. I was not aware of this mishap. It has dried and I am looking for ideas on how to remove without (1.) trashing the car's paint job, (2.) melting the bumper cover with too strong of a solvent, and (3.) Not having to visit my local body man about respraying the entire front end. Any thoughts? Thanks.

if the paint was water-based, start wetting it with water as soon as possibe, putting a wet towel on the area and keep pouring some water (hot , preferably) to keep the towel moist for few hours. water based paints take few days to cure, so it should be easy. then, when the paint feels soft try carefully scraping it off with fingernail. water based paints have a hard time sticking to a smooth surface.
but on the other hand if the paint was oil based....
as far as i know, regular paint thinner doesnt harm the clear coat as long as the contact time is not very long. so if you get a paint thinner soaked towel and carefully rub on the dried paint, it should soften after a while. i assume that the paint was splashed on to the bumper, then the paint was applied thick in which case only the outer layer of paint is dry and the inside part is still wet.
so it will take some time but if u act quickly (sooner the better) ... disaster averted.
