Horn Confirmation for locks????

Hey I don't seem to get any horn confirmation when I lock the doors with the remote, no mater how many times I push the lock button. Am I correct in assuming that this should work? Does it need to be programed?

No, you are not correct. What you get, if you want, is a soft "chirp" the second time you press lock.

As said above, it's not a horn but a soft chirp, located in the left front fender, I think. If you go into the MID, you will find a choice for turning the beep off or on, so if it is off now and you don't hear it, you have to turn it on.

What kind of aftermarket alarm do you have? Are you still able to use your original remote to open doors/windows?

Thanks.

You're sure that it's on and that you've pressed the lock button on your key fob twice?

I had a simliar question. I have the 'beep' option turned on and I don't hear a beep once I press the lock button once. You have to hit the lock button twice to hear the beep? So what does hitting the lock button once do, just lock all 4 doors without a beep?

Thanks.

Exactly. If you didn't see the lights flash when you hit it the first time...say you're walking away from the car...hit it again and you get the audible confirmation.

Although I must say, it certainly could stand to be a little louder in my opinion.

Beep

Tried it today. The beep is so low that I needed to put my ear near the front tire just to hear it. Can any of you hear it from a few feet away?

yes, I can hear, but a stiff breeze or passing car and you may miss it. My '02 TL was much much louder.

I believe your "chirp" beep is the same as what we've heard. Quite low and almost unheard in some environment, this may be why you couldn't hear it last night...

the chirp is hardly soft. if you want to hear it then as stated above press the lock button twice. youd have to be running away from the car not to hear it.

Not mine. I have to be within a few feet, and even then, if there is much wind, forget about it. Especially if you are on the wrong side of the car.

I got mine do to this once last night on accident. But now, as I try to replicate it, it won't honk the horn. Just reread the part in the owner's manual and it doesn't mention it.

the subtle chirp is great, the horn beep on other cars is obnoxius. I like the light flash as a visual reminder as well.

Agreed. My car is in the shop right now for some rattle issues and I have a rental Civic with the obnoxious horn honking.. I'm so much happier with the chirp!

I sure would like it to be a bit louder. When trying to find my car in a large parking lot, I have used my "locking confirmation" beep to help locate my car. This has been very handy with my previous cars, but is almost unusable with my 04TL (also partly due to the very short transmitter distance).

That's what the Panic Button is for! If you can find it using that, you can quickly shut it off too since you're already within range!

The range on the TL is pretty short compared to my old 95 Integra. It used to operate from 8th floor where I used to work. Even in the big parking lots, I could find my car after hitting the unlock button and listening to 2 loud horns.

Mod? I need a louder beep!

Okay, for some people the arming "beep" is loud enough and for others it's not. Personally, I can barely hear it if I'm walking away from the car. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about the car, and I want to change it. For those of you who are familiar with modding the TL, is there a way I can replace or adjust the beeping mechanism so that it's louder? I like the beep tone, but I just need it to be twice as loud. Any suggestions?

Although I, myself would prefer it to be a bit louder as well, I think Acura has taken into account people's complaint about alarms going off in the night and the constant honking of horns when alarms are armed.

It's not an alarm or anything that should be louder, just that single confirmation beep. I have the same problem, I can only hear it if stop, stand still, and listen when I push the button. Otherwise, forget it. I'm better off walking backwards and watching the lights. (And even those are a little dim if its sunny out). I'd love to turn it up a notch.

I relocated the beeper from behind the fender liner to just behind the front grille. It's amazing how much louder the "soft" chirp is now.

I agree with rets. Would like to know how to do it. Here in sunny Florida I can never see the lights blink in the daytime, so I need the beep.

A buddy of mine told me about a trick to increase the range of a fob. I thought he was nuts, but it works. Hold the top of the fob to your chin and push the button. It at least doubles the range. It worked on my Ford Explorer and now on my TL. Great for putting your windows down before stepping outside

Remove the front left tire and support the car with an approved jackstand. Remove the plastic rivet pins from the fender liner starting at the rear of the front fender. You don't have to completely remove the liner, halfway so be just enough to get to beeper horn located in the upper rear fender well. Unbolt the mounting bolts and extend the wiring by about 8 feet with 18 gauge wires. Look behind the front grille and tie wrap the beeper horn to a good solid spot. Mine is directly behind where the front plate would be and out of the way of the elements. Good luck. My work here is done.

It seems practical. I might do it in next time I rotate tires. How big is that beeper horn? Got a quick pic? Will it be damaged by rain or water if placed behind the plate and bumper?

If you could post more and with pic, this could be one of FAQ thread due to lots of ppl like to have loud beeping sound.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Groper. Relocating the beeper seems like a viable solution. I was hoping that the beeper volume might be adjustable, or that it might be a part that can be replaced with something from Radio Shack or elsewhere. Anyone ever taken a close look at that beeper, or even opened it up to see how it ticks?

I would think that any 12V device would work. If anyone knows of a car with a louder beeper, they could call that dealer and find out how much it costs. I am glad it's a beeper and not the horn because our horns are very loud.

The beeper is a low voltage device. The circuit itself can't even trip a 12v relay. I was going to wire in a relay to use a soft chirp siren from my used parts bin, but there was not enough juice to trip the relay. Relocating the beeper to the front seems to be a good compromise for now.

May I know which Acura dealer did this for you? Which Hornet system do you have? 5-series or 7-series?

Thanks.

Actually my 99 is quiet too. I thought there was something wrong with it but it's just quiet.

Wait a minute! Are you SERIOUSLY asking for ring tones on your CAR?

my beep is easily audible when i press the lock button for a 2nd time... but not quite as loud as i would like it to be. good luck to those that do a the mod/move. If anyone does happen to take their beeper out and move it, a picture of the unit itself would be great. thanks in advance!
