KBB trade in range from Fair to Excellent is $6800-9200. So you're actually lucky the dealer gave you a lil over Good value which is $8350.

Private Party is $8800-11,300

Remember your mods are worth nothing when it comes to trade in. I would think you would know this at your age. LOL

Sell it yourself. You'll get more out of it that way.

That's a decent offer. If you want more, sell privately.

Having no navigation and eclipsing 100k miles drops your resale value down dramatically along with a newer model of the TL (4G), and the fact that it is considered as a 6 year old car. Sadly, KBB, Edmunds, and the dealerships have to put a price tag on our cars not knowing how godly our cars are after 100k miles.

It looks to be in very good condition- if you feel the price for it is too low, you might be better off not 'upgrading' and drive it for a few more years. I'm sure it will go the distance. It'll beat making payments.

+1 unless you can prove that all the modifications were done by a professional it can greatly decrease the value of your car. But on the flip side your car doesn't have that Blue/Purple paintjob and everything is tastefully done, not to mention for 105K miles i'd say your car is close to excellent, hence the good trade quote. Keep in mind though, dealers play the game. They might give you more for your car, but they will give you less off of theres and vice versa. It's to throw you off and make you think your getting a deal when really you would pay the same amount. So unless you sell yourself, be careful with the car you are buying as well.

I suggest getting it appraised at a couple of other places that have similar cars you are looking at. This is easier of course if you are looking at new cars. Good luck!

Also if you still have your stock parts you could, "de-mod" your car and put the stock pieces back on and sell the aftermarket parts to us to make the extra cash. That intake looks pretty nice to me! lol

I thought about "upgrading" myself, but I thought of it this way...

As long as we maintain them, our cars are going to last FOREVER! I might need a new transmission soon, but after that's replaced this thing will last a good 200,000 more miles if I keep taking care of it the way I do. Ok my point is this, our cars are BAD ASS! And I don't think you can put that low of a price on something that is as sleek, sexy, safe, reliable, and luxerious as our cars... no matter what price kbb, edmonds, or whoever gives it. I say KEEP IT!

Random advice:

Make sure you do some reading before you trade your car in. Always do the two transactions separately. Agree on a price for the car you want without even mentioning the trade-in (say no even if they ask; which they will). Then once you are fully agreed on the price and have paper-work to prove it, then bring up your trade-in.

Like it was said above, a common dealer "scam" is to give you a good trade-in value, which hooks you, and because of that you settle for a higher price on the car you want. It's human nature, everyone thinks their car is worth more than it is, and when someone actually offers you closer to what you think it is... you're hooked.

Do a bunch of reading on-line first. Granted you might already know this, so if that's the case, you're good to go.

You could probably get $11K private for it. I'd keep it.

Why don't you trade bumpers, plus cash and sell the intake. With the dealer seeing those mods, they will actually take money off of the trade knowing the car was messed with. Your tires mean a lot too since they are fairly gone. No nav doesn't help either, as well as the high milage. I would shoot for 10k private, but after the intake trade and bumper trade it may make sense just to trade it in.

$8,500 is an awesome deal if it was a dealer. On a car like yours (no-mods), my max would be 10k private sale. Dealer needs to prep and resale for a profit so the amount offer is very good. I personally only buy stock used cars especially +100,000 cars. On moded cars, I'll just walk away unless its a great deal. Anything more than a radio upgrade to me including cold air intake is too much. My local area 3 months ago had an 05 TL with nav with 118,000 miles for 13K. He was willing to sell me the car for 11K but I turned it down for an 05 TL 6-speed, nav, 36,000 miles for 13.5K.

Evnash, it's been almost two weeks since you originally posted. Lots of opinions on here. Any thoughts on how you're going to play it? In a similiar boat, my '04 has just over 100,000 miles. I think we 6-digit-mileage-club folks are all in that gray area of keep-her-till-she-dies vs take some 4-digit trade-in offer (or go through pain of selling outright) to get something else. In my case, having done the 105k service early, I plan to hang onto her until at least when the next TB change is due. Still a darn fine car IMHO.

Really smart non-TL-owning "lurker" folks on here should be trying to snatch up our just-completed-105k-service TLs (without paying up obviously). You guys would get a great car (new to you) on the cheap that most will agree should be good for another 100,000 relatively trouble-free miles. A ridiculously low cost/mile if you ask me...

My bottom line opinion in your case Evnash: Take the $8500 trade-in value if you really want a new ride. You only live once.....enjoy!

I just bought a 05 TL with 26,2xx miles. If any car I saw wasn't 100% stock I didn't bother. some dealers were asking around $12,000 for one's around your mileage, but they're been online for a while now. 05's with around 70 to 80,000 miles go for around $14,000

I would personally take off all the mods and put it back to stock if you still have the parts. I'd probably not really say anything about the front bumper since most first time buyers of the TL don't know the difference between 04-06 and your 07+ bumper. I would think the car had front end damage.

I would try to sell on craigslist first and make sure you take lots of pictures and stress how it was properly serviced. and make sure you sell it for enough to cover the tax credit you get at trade in time
i.e $8500 x 6% tax = $9,010 so you have to sell it for more than $9,010 or it's more worth to trade in.

Good luck with the sale if you go for it!

Nash, if it is time to upgrade, and you have another car in mind, you can always take the mods off (ie: the intake, Type S bumper) and sell them on the Black Market here on Acurazine and trade in the car for your upgrade. That way, you'll get your money out of the trade-in and maybe make some more from selling the mods separately.

Although that does seem like a fair amount, I'd push for a bit more- maybe 9k. My sister recently traded in her 04 TL with about 100K. In terms of it's appearance/condition...I'd give it about a 5/10. It was pretty nasty. The Benz dealer still offered her $8,500ish. And it was bone stock. Sell your mods.

It depends on if your mods are the best walmart has to offer, or quality mods like Acura Navigation, or Acura Genuine parts. How much in either direction, (up or down) is another topic.

In a lot of the states-when you trade your car in they deduct the trade value from the new car purchase. You then do not have to pay the sales tax on the full amount.

You could try selling it yourself for whatever the NADA value says. Or take an average of NADA and kelly blue book

Got $18.5k when I traded in my TL-S for a 335i 1 month ago. 85k miles, as clean as it left the lot 3 years ago inside and out. First thing the salesman said after my appraisal was, "good thing you got a type s because clean ones are in demand."

Like everyone said: no navi, high miles, not a type-s (wheels + 3 spoke steering wheel + dual projectors + brembos) are all to your disadvantage in this market.

just take it and don't look back.
