Hondas are reliable - BMW's are not
Since the above statement is my opinion and is 50% of the reason I got rid of my TroubleU, I need to know one thing.
Is there a site for the TL 3G like this: www.e38.org?

Have you heard of a certain vehicle called the "Every Automatic V6 Honda Made Between '98 and '05"? Not known for its reliability.
As far as a site for the 3G TL, AZ is as good as you're going to get.

Crap, AZ is lacking mostly due to the reliability of the car/brand.

I don't really see the correalation between the quality of an online forum and the reliability of the car.

I agree with your sentiments about BMW. While engine wise my dad's e46 325i hasnt given us any problems, it does have a problem with central locking and broke all 4 window regulators. Great. Luckily it's a 5MT so we dont have to worry about transmission issues. All of this happening within 50k miles. It currently has 46k.
take it as a compliment. Since most people come to forums with problems you'll find more "how to fix" threads. Since Acura is presumably at least a bit more reliable than BMW there's a lack of such threads.

I disagree to an extent. There's no doubt some people register on online forums to find the solution to a problem with their car. But I think the majority of people who register take pride in their car, and simply want to learn more about it.

What is the fix/consensus with the 5th gear vibe at 1500 RPM other than the giant dampener mount?
I am not sure if there is a door speaker removal thread with pictures or a custom install.
There is more but that is a start.

Ahhh.
Well it shouldn't "pop up randomly". If left alone at start-up, the screen will go blank in, say, 30 seconds or so.
If you push "OK", it should not come up again during that start/running cycle. If you turn the car off, it starts a new "cycle".
If you don't push "OK", then everytime you touch a navi button or bring the screen "back to life", you get the disclaimer.
If your disclaimer screen is not acting that way, I don't know why and don't recall reading about any issue in this regard.
Depending on the car nad navi disk version, there may be a hack. NO "OK Button Hack" for 2007/2008 - for those you can only hack the splash-screen bitmap.

C series V6's were not affected such as the NSX, RL and TL (1st gen V6)
But yes, those transmissions in the J series were a nightmare for some.

I agree. This is why I've always stayed away from european cars. Maintenance is too high and reliability is hit or miss. Bmws are nice, but wouldnt be worth the money to me. When I was shopping for a car between 10-15k, I was looking at some newer bimmers but decided that I could afford the car, but not the maintenance, being that I'm a student and I'm 20. Thats why I chose Acura.
Although, I can agree that our ATs are practically made of glass![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Anywho. good luck with your Nav...don't have a solution for you. haha.

The E38 was a gorgeous car but sadly not so reliable. I hope you find your TL more reliable.
I love my BMWs and TL
.
Our 3 series (E90) and 5 series (E60) have been trouble free. The E90 has 92k miles and its been routine maintenance. I do need to replace the water pump which will cost $750 but its almost the same as the TL's big service. New spark plugs were installed at 80k and brakes were changed at 75k. Oil changes cost me $60 I get my own oil and they last for 10k miles. I am hoping this car lasts until 250k.
The E9X models I believe are the most reliable from BMW except the 335....and that's because of the HPFP issue.

Your BMW's are too new to have common issues. Some just have them out of the box. The larger the number, the more the depreciation and problems. Wait until they are 10 years old and all the plastic starts in the engine compartment start failing. Surprize! Bring Money Withyou, because you'll need it!

That is not bad. Do they sell a replacement drive? I can do that.

The water cooled alternator on my E39 540i was $1171.xx with a $50 core. Who is getting raped here? Plus they are all Bosch and remans, not made anymore. I can't go into all the repairs I had in that car but I will never buy another unless I am rich and can buy new.

How did you pay $600 for labor? Did you take it to BMW? The thing with these cars is....either you learn yourself or have a indy shop near you.
My E90 is already 6 years old I don't think I will have any problems with it. The M52 engine is bulletproof so is the N52 engine on my other one. I have replaced all the major things on my E90. The only thing that can go wrong now is the transmission.....and that is more of a concern for the TL then it is for the BMWs.
I don't know how much you paid for your E39 but you have to remember at one point it was a $70k car and if you bought it for $18k you are still driving a $70k car. So the repairs/maintenance will still be of a $70k car. I know someone who bought a E65 2002 745li for $8k....yes 8k and he has spent nearly 8k fixing it up. If you buy these cars with higher miles especially the higher end models with the big engines make sure you get service records otherwise you are SOL.
I hope you enjoy your TL. What other problems did you experience with your E39 if you don't mind me asking? Vanos?
