Homelink Programming.. not successful.
Has anyone here successfully programmed their homelink to open their garage door? I tried for a while last night, following the instructions in the manual and nothing worked.
Is there anything special.. any trick to it? What? I'm so lost.

Do you have a garage door with rolling codes. My guess is you do. If so you have to push a button on the actual garage door opener that will allow it to accept a new remote as an authorized user. This prevents someone from scanning your garage door code and opening.

Hal, if you're house is only 2 years old, your garage opener will have rolling codes. What you need to do is push the button the the Home Link while someone up on a ladder his the button the one actual opener. It should accept the TL's home link no problem, good luck

If it is only two years old I would bet my last dollar it has a rolling security code. When you get home this evening grab the owners manual for you Garage Door Opener (GDO) and look up how to progam a new remote. You will have to push a button on the GDO head unit, you will most likely see a light start flashing, you have 30 seconds to program the Homelink in the car.
Warning: make sure you either disconnect the GDO from the door or keep the path clear as you will activate the door during this procedure.

My TL will be two weeks old tomorrow.. Saturday. The day after I bought it, I looked up the instructions for setting HomeLink and tried and tried, but could not get it to take. Funny, My Altima SE took on the first shot and worked flawlessly.
Then I searched on this site and found some other people who had experience the same problem and they had an answer. You have to hold the button you programmer for the door about 1+ seconds before it will open or close the door.. you can't just give it a quick push. Try this and see if it works Mine works fine now.

I too had some problems getting mine programmed. My GDO is a Genie with rolling codes.
I was trying to program it off of a Keychain Genie opener that was NOT part of the original GDO. I picked it up seperately over a year ago and added it to the GDO.
Either the battery was too weak or Smartlink will not learn off an added remote.
Finally I found one of the original remotes and put in a new battery and it learned with no further issue.
Perhaps you need an original remote?
