Homelink
We have tried many times to program the homelink to open my garage door. We've followed every single instruction, even called the homelink toll free number. Can anyone offer some advice about this?
I have a newer model Craftsman garage door opener, it's about a year old, so I know it can't be the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks!

Most new garage door openers have a button on the unit itself. Press the button on the unit then press the homelink button. The homelink instructions don't work for the new garage door openers since they use a rolling code.

Mine has a rolling code, and the secret for mine was to UNPLUG the GDO, then program the Homelink, then plug it back in. I tried a hundred times before then and it failed every time, but with the plug out it worked the first time. Go figure.

Crissy, I had the same problem and also have a Sears/Craftsman opener. I tired to follow the diagram in the manual EXACTLY. Didn't work - several times. Tried the unplug and that didn't work either. Tried slight variations from the diagram in the manual. Didn't work.
Gave up and called Homelink and they said "look on the opener unit and see if it has a learn button" Yes it does. They said press the learn button on the opener. As soon as I did that the Homelink in the car worked perfectly.
It's been about a month, so I don't remember exactly which step in the process I had to press the learn button on the opener. The Homelink Toll Free number should hook you up with a rep that can walk you through the process.

sounds kind of embarrashing, but the first time I tried to set it up, I failed plus erasing the garage opener that was working perfectly .... then at least I programed GDO to work again ... didn't have the patience to go through the Homelink again .... but from what I see here, calling the toll free number on the homelink might be the way to do it correctly ... project for the July 4th break ... LOL
