Hit and Run

So I'm on my way to work a few days ago and I go out to brush the snow off the car and I find this:

Of course, that is the only thing I found. No note of any kind. That and a high deductible means I'm gonna be forking out some money. In any case, does anyone know where I can get a cheap rear left quarter panel? I'll probably be getting a new bumper (as some tabs were broken on the old one) so I'll need to repaint some stuff regardless. Maybe I'll just repaint the whole thing - we'll see. So if anyone has or knows where to look for a spare rear driver's side quarter panel, a driver's side type-s tail light, or a rear bumper (base or type-s) for sale, let me know.

On a positive note, I think the type-s rear sidemarker survived.

Ouch man that sucks! I got bumped in a parking lot last week but mine wasn't anywhere near that bad!

Good luck on getting it fixed! How much is your deductible?

The deductible is $1,000 so it will put a little dent into the bank account. Does anyone have any experience doing repairs themselves? What happens if I do the work myself and I find more damage than the adjuster finds? If I take it to a shop I assume they would contact the adjuster and tell them they found more damage, so would I do the same thing? Would they try to buzz me for doing the repairs myself? I have American Family btw. Thanks!

Yeah - I haven't had an accident and keep my car garaged 99.9% of the time so I went for a higher deductible. Of course, this is one situation where it doesn't pay off.

The bumper can be resused most of the time, they just get replacement clips for it and fit it on the bumper. The quarter panel just can't be replaced, it is welded onto the car all along the bottom where the damage its, up to the trunk lid, then forward along the rear window and then up towards the roof and then down to the windshield. They will have to repair it as welding it is going to be WAY to much work and may compromise the overall stability of the car since Robots do the work at the factories due to the precision needed.

The repair should be about 2K - 2.5K, 150 for the new light, 300 to repaint the rear bumper, 1500 - 2000 to fix the damage and repaint the quarterpanel.

I don't wish anything bad on anyone but in this case I really do hope that the other driver gets hit with a bad karma. I just can not stand people who fuck things up and does not take any responsibility.
