I don't know if this has been discussed before or not, but I discovered a hidden feature of the navigation system. If you hold down the Zoom key for a second, you get half steps of the zoom level. For example, instead of going from 1/2 mile to 2 miles, you can zoom to 1 mile. Additionally, the manual says that you can select view heading or view North only up to 1/2 mile zoom level. You can view by heading at the 1 mile zoom level (if you zoom from 1/2 up to 1 mile, rather than from 2 miles down to 1 mile).

Here's another hidden mode. Hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel down at the same time. This will take you in to diagnostic mode. Just be careful :-)

 

You can switch between the North view and something else by pressing a little icon on the upper left corner.

 

Just saying "Display heading up" or "Display north up" will switch it.

 

At 2 miles and greater, it displays on North heading up, at least when you press the icon on the screen.

 

Oops. I mean ONLY North heading up at a zoom level of 2 miles or greater.
