HID Fogs... arg im confused
I just got my Alright so I called my guy up who does all the work on my car and i asked him if he can hook up HID fogs in place of my stock fogs. Now... is this a matter of getting an HID kit or is it just a blue'ish bulb? I asked him and he said the HID kit requires a ballast..... so im just really confused. Order an HID kit? or Just a bulb...of some sort lol?
(im an idiot) and i did a search but nothing really answered the question

You need a full kit
You need a conversion kit.
Ensure that you get a good kit. It shouls only use the existing car wiring for the switched power source. It should connect directly to the battery for it's constant power source.
- HID Bulbs
- Starters & ballasts (most of these are now combined)
- wiring harness

I am in the same position as you.. i am thinking of getting an HID kit from xenondepot.com I have a kit for my dads car from them and no problems yet. it is a direct pkug and play although i had to make a few small adjustments to fit in the factory oem harness.

How much is the kit? I got a set of Mcculloch Hid Kits. I think I paid ~$260 for them. Installed them myself so not sure how much it would cost to have it installed.

I think most kits come with at least one year warranty. If I recall correctly, they will last 1000+ hours. But it depends more on how many time you turn on and off the bulb. Did you ever find out the manufacture of the kit? Would you consider installing it yourself? Its actually not that hard.

Wow, thats a lot, this place i go to sells and installs the kit for much cheaper than that i think, Call - 551 - 265 - 9251, ask for Jay, and ask how much everything will cost. it shouldnt be that much at all.

HID's will not work with stock wiring on a 2007 acura tl-s. A seperate power source with its own relay is needed. The stock Fog system is 35w. At least 55w is needed to run a HID headlight kit. I know that the kits say they are 35w but they put out 35w at 24v after amplifying your voltage. You can try it if you want but it definately did not work on my car in the DRL's or the Fogs.
By the way... I believe the fog bulbs are either a H8 or H11 I cant remember its been so long. Look up the fogs on acuraautomotiveparts.org It lists the bulbs

Porkipine: I would do it myself, but i dont want to risk doin anything to the car, i still dont have the plates or anything so it's basically brand new still.... and at least if a shop makes a mistake.... i can sue lol
JDMTurbo: That's another reason im having someone install them because i'd somehow mess it up

anyone wanna chime in why we need HID fog lights.. when we already have bi-xenon projectors ? Wouldn't an HID setup defeat the purpose of the fogs (relatively low light output to prevent the glare/shine back in heavy fog?)
If anything i'd go for the "lexus" yellow bulbs..

Yet I swapped it out since it rarely fogs here so the fog lights are useless.

couple suggestions. Make sure they are using an external source to power up the ballast. Check review on the brand since you rather pay a little more now and not need to worry about fixing it later. Talk to the installer regarding the placement of the ballast. You might need to buy a new set of HID for your headlight orelse yours might end up looking like this.
stock 4300k on top, 5000k mcculloch for fogs.

Im speaking from experience.... from installing HIDs for all the new 07-08 cars all summer for people who dont want to buy $3000 packages to get the HIDs (and older cars as well) .....you dont need to use a new wiring harness there is another way to power the ballast fully with a capacitor and keep it on and keep it from flickering plus a fuse upgrade will have to be done from 10-15amps, unless the new TLs come with 15 on the line now....I didnt look but the 2 Type-S' I did had a flicker problem....I think its because Acura uses one line for 2 bulbs and theres too much draw on that one line (one relay one fuse or one relay 2 fuses) and only one ballast get the initial power to ignite. The Caps store the energy for a split second and balance the load on the line without flickering or power lose. Now for other cars that use pulses to detect HID setups, other things can be done to bypass it without relays. Except new Mercedes... I get those reprogrammed at benz.

^^ I meant I can't figure out the manufacture.
I actually took off the bumper because its easier to figure out where to mount the ballast and do the wiring.
Did you have any problems with feedback? I did when I was making the two relays (one for each ballast) and had to use diodes.

yea ur right about mounting thats another problem.....lol. nope no feedback jus plug the wire right into the ballast say bye bye to the relays and diodes. just a capacitor to break down the pulse and keep the voltage consistant. the harness I make is good for BMW AUDI CHRYSLER ACURA.....all of them have pretty much the same methods of keeping people from upgrading to HIDs. Instead of going nuts with relays n wires where they arent needed....I pulled out all my old school books for circuits and analysis of circuits.... there always has to be a simple way to fix a complicated problem. I did an 08 audi yesterday as a matter of fact with philips slim line ballasts n philips 6000k bulbs.....WOW is all I can say. Now with the Benzos they have a 3 check system where 3 of the 4 computers run constant diagnostics on the electrical flow of lights n everything else so if one computer doesnt cut ur power the other will.... and im not gonna sit there n figure those suckers out....ill just send them to my friend at benz

so insead of paying 500 dollars im just gonna go buy the kit from the guy who ordered it for me and then my friend and i are going to install it. Me and him installed my angel eyes on my TSX... cant be much harder than that... I hope
Is the install hard? How long will it take? Are there any cutting of wires involved and stuff?
Thanks in advance.

If you get the H11 kit, you need to cut into wires, if you get H8, its just plug in and thats all. from what i hear. Make sure you mount the ballasters in a place they wont get wet from going through puddles. Autosound just left them laying there, and theyre already rusting.

Great comment Kennedy... fact noted... however, they look incredible...
I've been driving like this for months with no visibility issues... however, I do live in NYC... so every road is well lite with 4300k HID Street Lights...
