Hey guys. Just got my TL yesterday

I am new to the forums, so i will tell you a little about my ride. 2005 Acura TL, automatic, Anthracite Gray Mettalic, ebony leather.

I got the car for $31,225 plus tax and fees. Originally i had a 4.6% interest rate for $621 a month over 60 months, however the salesman needed to hit some goals so he dropped the rate and added gap coverage and vin etching so i am now paying $620.05 with those two on it. I really didn't care as long as my payment didn't go up. In this case it actually went down. With all the fees I was still paying less than sticker which i thought was good.

I also traded in a 2002 PT cruiser with 22K miles that i owed 10,800 on. He actually gave me $11k for it, which i thought was odd, since it was worth at the most $10k. So i was extremely happy.

The car is amazing. Everything I wanted and then some. If you guys can give me any ideas on customizing it in a classy way... Nothing too cheesy.... let me know. The A-SPEC kit is sweet, however I dont' wanna drop $5k on it. I am thinking possibly tinting the windows and maybe some rims, but that's about it. The car looks great without any upgrades.

Question... am i able to cancel the gap coverage after i added it?? it will drop my payments $10 a month or so. I only agreed to it because it didn't raise my payment, but if there is a way to drop it after the sale, that'd be sweet.

Welcome to the forum. My only question is why you would want to drop the gap coverage. Sure, 10 bucks a month sounds like a savings but unless you have the money to pay the difference between what you owe on the car and what you might get for it if its totaled, I'd keep it. If you ever need it its worth it.

imo, gap coverage offered by dealerships is bs. unless you total your TL within a few months of getting it, you will not lose money. your insurance company will pay enough, and you can even add such coverage on your insurance for less than 10/mo. im not sure if you can be dropped now, but see if you can and drop it.

i have to cancel the gap within 30 days in writing to the dealership and I will get a full refund. it's $500 i will be getting back, so I am cancelling that sucker pronto. I guess I am stuck with the VIN etching though since I already had it done. Maybe I can get a discount on my auto insurance for it.

i dunno about your dealership, but GM offers "insurance" with VIN etching. meaning, they will replace your stolen parts if they're not recovered within certain amount of time. really, without this, what's the point of paying for VIN etching? what advantages did the sales rep talk about?

it was originally 4.6% apr, but he dropped it to 4.44% if i took the vin etching and gap insurance, which basically gave me the same monthly payment.

Duuuuuuuuuuuude what are you thinking....??!!!! for 10 bucks a month that gap is priceless! let's say in 3 years god forbid someone hits you and your beloved TL gets totaled...not that this is a kia to depreciate that much but at 120 bucks a year, it could save you thousands. do yourself a favor... keep the GAP

btw congrats on the new whip! Not as hot as my WDP but close

gap coverage can be added onto your auto insurance policy for less than what the dealership is charging. this also means you can have the gap coverage removed after you know the TL's value is higher than the balance you owe.

you sound like a sales rep trying to meet your gap coverage sales quota.

yeah, keep telling yourself that WDP is better. i'm all smiles with my anthracite. haha
