Helped a stranded 3G TL owner
On my way to the supermarket after work, I pull down a poorly-lit side street and see two guys waving at me from the side of the road. They're standing by a black 3G 04-06 TL with the hood up.
I take this in at a glance as I pass. I do a u-turn on the empty street then cruise by them again. With my tints, they probably can't see me. The one guy is holding a battery pack. The charge light looks like its low. It's from Canadian Tire (or "Crappy Tire" as some call it).
Seems legit, I conclude, and do another sharp u turn, nosing up to the other TL.
They're very thankful I stopped and that I have cables. They said nobody wanted to stop for them, except for a cabbie or two who didn't have cables or didn't want to waste his time.
Now before I say what happened next, heh, I'll have you know I work as a vehicle transporter for a major car rental company. We have about 3000 vehicles in our fleet, and I've probably boosted close to 200 cars over the last year and a half.
But my new-to-me TL has never boosted a car before, much less another TL. "How hard could it be?" as Jeremy Clarkson says. I wire them up, finding an unpainted bolt on the strut-tower (after having to remove the cover). No start. Hrm.
There must be another ground point, but where? RTFM, I thought, Read The Fucking Manual. Oh, way down there, next to the belt? Ok then. Started right up.
The other owner said he'd had the car for years and racked up like 220,000 km on it. Rust proofed so other than a needing a wash it looked good. He said he's never had a problem with it...except for the battery.
It was a standard issue OEM Honda battery. "Which is like the same thing", he says, which is pretty much true or true enough. He said he had just bought it. I preached to him the virtues of other choices in batteries.
btw, I said in parting, check out this website, the best site for 3G TL owners in the known universe.
