I bring by baby in for two recalls, to check the engine light that has come on since i made the appointment (shiftronic not working) and noisey shocks / axles.

So of course the two recalls are done and it turns out that they have to replace the two from axles and Idle tensioning bearings. OK fine as they are under warrenty (glad I bought and extended warrenty).

Now, comes the news about the check engine light of course its in connection with the shift-tronic not working. Turns out that they have found coffe and or soda has dripped down my shifter and "Mayhave" ruined a sensor for the "shifter plate" and they want 55 dollars to continue checking the problem and will not give a price for and new sensor and install.

Now Im heading there soon to look for my self and spray some contact cleaner on it as they will not.

Question: Is this BS or what? I have never here of this. Anyone?
Advice?

Quote: Did you ever spill coffee or soda on there?

And there lays the question.....

I have been into the shift control area and would think it would take quite the spill to "short" or mess up a so called sensor etc..

If its from a spill, it's from a spill. I would want to see the actual damage however and then see that the fix actually remedies the check engine light as well.

Could be complete BS and just another attempt by dealer/Acura to avoid warranty, or it could be completely fact.

Good luck

MANY TLs - if you look under the cup holder have residue from soda, mine came with it from the prior owner
There is a direct path to a flat plastic plate under the shifter- on the bottem of the plate are 3 small electrical micro switches that send the shift signal to the computer

I dont know gen3 interior bit on my gen2 it requires removal of center console to access the plate and remove to get the switches
for 55$ they will likely do an electrical test to see if one or more are damaged- which is likely.
The dont randomly make stuff up to deny you warranty- but acura corp also looks at the parts they are paying for and soda is user fault- no maker issue

The Good news is the switches are in the $45 range, and hopefully its only 1
Its burnt and obvious
You can try the CRC non residue electrical contact spray cleaner --with a long straw- try to make it shoot back up to get the switches
Otherwise you or a friend need to look up removing center console- google will find it for you-and get to work

it may be a few hours labor for the dealer- they quoted me 700!!
