Help! Regular instead of PRemium

I accidentally put regular gas instead of premium in my 04TL(Auto). I think my car had 2gallons of premium and I added 9gallons before I realised the mistake.

Should I top off with premium or wait till the tank runs towards empty?

Thanks.

I would top it off with premium to bring the average up a little. It will be alright, just drive it easy until you run this tank out.

Yeah but...I don't think putting in a tank of regular once would cause your car to break down..

You'll be fine.

I would not worry whatsoever, today's advanced vehicles are easily able to accomodate any fuel grade. It's been proven that our TL's can run on regular, but if you want the desired performance and the longest possible engine life, stay with premium.

coming from a family of a lot of gas station owners...all u have to do is add premium...89 octane is a half split of 87 n 93..so there really is no 89..so u will be fine if u top it off with premium

Perhaps top it off with one of those techron fuel additives.

I'd probably just drive "nicely" until a half tank. Then fill it up with 91/93 and forget it ever happened.

Performance or not the only worry is a "pinging" engine that is slowly destroying itself. Just drive it nice with smooth/gradual acceleration etc..

Seriously - no worries

You're F'D!! You've totally voided the entire warranty and will be lucky if you make through the tank with out blowing your engine to smithereens.

Sorry dude.

So, what're you gonna buy as a replacement?

(j/k )

It is NOT a big deal. Just put in gas a little earlier than usual (1/2 tank ??) and use premium.

Thank you everyone for your reassuring (and some hilarious) replies; I'll top off with premium first thing in the morning.

It is nice to see this forum is so active after so long.

As far as replacement car goes, I'll wait for the hybrid version of the TL, so long as it has similar driving characteristics.

You could add a bottle of octane booster to get you by in the short term, but like others have said I don't think it's a big deal...

Talking I agree...

darksom1,

Just drive...
I agree 100%

Soccer_playa1579,

yea add a bottle of octane booster and ur fine.. aint a biggy..
Actually, octane boosters add a single point only. So if you have 87 octane and add the best octane booster you can find you end up with 87.1 octane.

Don't waste your time or money.

pg_rider,

You could add a bottle of octane booster to get you by in the short term, but like others have said I don't think it's a big deal...
See the above...

orrorin,

Don't worry about it.
