Late last year, my friend (whom I only see once every couple months, because he lives in Long Island) got a 2006 Lincoln LS. Certainly not a car I'd choose for myself, but it's comfortable to ride in. I'll admit I do like the air-conditioning in the seats.
What's getting a little tiresome is that, since he had a bad experience with an Accord coupe a few years ago (and ended up getting rid of it under the lemon law), he's so anti-everything-Honda, that he's constantly making comparisons between our cars. He'll pipe up with some cool feature on his car, as if challenging me to respond with something even cooler or better about my car.
The problem is that he's a service advisor at a Ford dealership in the Hamptons and I'm a designer at AOL. He's kinda got an unfair advantage in the automotive knowledge department.
So my question is... and I hope you guys can help... is there any kind of comprehensive list of innovative engineering that went into the TL? Some stuff where I can respond to my friend with, "Oh, yeah? Well MY car does this...!" It doesn't even have to be stuff that is necessarily visible to the driver or passenger, since he can appreciate the mechanical stuff too.
As an example, I have a vague notion that the GPS and some little sensor on the dash work together to adjust the A/C flow on hot days, depending on what direction your heading and where the sun's hitting. (Man, I hope that's a real feature and not something I just pulled out of my ass.) THAT is cool engineering.
Does that make sense? Basically, I just want to be able to come back at my friend with reason why my TL is better than his LS. Because I truly believe it is—I just haven't been able to prove it to him yet.
Thanks!

My turn to reply to this very hilarious thread...
The LS stole their name from and old Acura... Integra 'LS'
Honda engines die at over 200k miles no matter what even if their poorly maintained
Ford is American (American cars are crap)
General Motors sells more
The LS looks like a fake BMW
The TL features all original wind tunnel design
Honda actually caters to the performance mod heads by offering the A-Spec Package
Ford doesn't have anything of the sort
The build and price feature on Acura's website lets you add a ton of optional goodies
Honda's owner's link rocks
Tell him it takes under 6 seconds for you to get to 60mph
And tell him you can gas out the corner

they had a 10,000 dollar rebate!!!! When people bring LS in for trade we tell them they need two of them and one being paid for just to maybe break even. I hope your friend likes his car.. B/C if he owes on it he is offiacally out of the car market for the remainder of his 60 months or hope to god not 72months

Thanks!
I didn't believe the salesman, until I took delivery, and made a couple of turns in the neighborhood, and I can hear the fan speed self-adjusting.

it's me, Alan Rickman.
Correct.. the 2nd sensor on the dash now controls the automatic headlights. The original sensor (near the passenger side) detects radiant heat while the sensor under the steering wheel area detects interior air temperature. Based on the readings from the sensors the vehicle (when the climate system is in Auto mode) will adjust fan speed as well as adjust the amount of warm or cold air it's pushing out to maintain the selected temperature. I think setting the system to "Lo" while on auto will run the fan at full speed and will not attempt to adjust or compensate for the sensor readings. I think the same applies for maximum heat; in these modes its full hot or cold, full fan speed until the settings are changed.
I believe a new for 07 feature is the auto-reduction of fan speed when you activate HFL or Nav commands; the system should return to the previous fan speed when the command has completed. If the fan speed is higher than 3 it will drop it to 2.. I think..

Simple. Follow these steps and your friend will definitely shut up
1. Take your friend out to your car- make sure your keys are in your pocket.
2. Put hand in pocket casually.
3. Say "Open windows" while simultaneously clicking once and immediately after holding the UNLOCK button on your remote.
4. Watch and smile as all of your windows and sunroof open at your voice-command.
5. Tell your friend to go back inside and use the bathroom as he will sure begin crapping himself

I owned the 00 v6, 02 V8 Sport, and a 04 LSE Lincoln LS's. Nice cars for the money and features, but horrible resale and reliability. I sold each car with under 50K miles due to them starting to show problems. I thought each revision of the car would improve, but they barely did.
Here is a link to the last 04 I owned and sold almost 2 years ago. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2809238

How can one compare a Honda to Ford? That's a joke. That's like comparing apples to oranges. Well, if he truly is your friend than I don't see a need to compete. Put the two next to each other and have people cast votes. I can guarantee you 99.999% of the votes will lean toward the TL.
umm his car is a FORD, American garbage. There's a reason why everyone doesn't buy those cars and buys imports, not to mention that, if it weren't for imports, those garbage POS American cars, wouldn't be HALF as decent as they are now.
Tell him to compare his car to a mercury or a chrysler, where it belongs.

Anyone in the racing world laughs at imports. I have honestly never once had a serious challenge from anything but an American car. I still catch hell from my friends for driving an Acura. Doesn't matter to me because I like the car but keep in mind your narrow viewpoint.
I'm not a Ford fan but they have a rich racing history that Honda will never compare to.

Just saw the date. That explains a lot.

Me neither, but those 5.0 Mustangs.....DAMN!
I have never really lusted after American iron (save the Corvette/CTS-V), but this new 5.0, for the money, damn near irresistible. If I was in the market and had a 35k budget, it would SERIOUSLY be on the top of my list. Grabber blue with a racing stripe, Brembos, and the 1000W stereo with Sych. Sold.
Goes to show how much American cars are improving. When I realized that this thread was from '07, I thought to myself, "Ford didn't really have anything that great." Not so anymore.
But yeah, a TL vs. a Lincoln LS, the only advantage it has that I can see is the RWD.
#75
Besides the shitty interior, the 5.0s are fucking badass. 300Hp for $22,000, or 400Hp for $30,000 is a lot of bang for the buck for either car.

I'm thinking that I've read somewhere that the fit and finish is actually quite good in the new ones, but I could be wrong.
But yeah, 412HP for 30k. Damn. We are currently in "the good old days". I don't like to think about what cars will be like 25 years from now (when I'll actually be able to afford a 50k car, hopefully).
#77
Most people will probably find it acceptable, but I honestly just don't like the way Ford designs its interiors, esp. the center console & that gigantic looking shift knob on the autos.

That right there just looks bland & boring.

The biggest annoyance I always noticed with *most* domestics I work on is the dashboard reflection on the windshield. It's something they can never seem to get correct... always reflects like hell in the sun.

Keep it in perspective, we're coming from a TL which IMO has one of the all time best interiors. I fully admit that most Domestics have a ways to go in interior design but I've met a lot of people that love them. I guess it's just different taste. My mother for one. We were out looking at new cars for her and even though she had the choice of just about anything from a 3-series to a lower end Mercedes, she kept wanting a Malibu.
She ended up settling on a new 4 banger Camry.![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)

The inside looks like a rental car, as plain as it can be but she likes it......for some reason.
400+hp will make you overlook many other flaws. If any of you have seen what a GN looks like on the inside you will understand.

Really, guys? Let's keep this halfway intelligent. You're not old enough to remember when the imports were complete garbage, unreliable, and just plain junk. They've gotten better because of American cars, not the other way around. Maybe they even surpassed them for a while.
