help!

i have a 2005 acura tl/ 6 speed manual. i have had issues with a noise coming from the axles while turning my car at low speeds. i had the entire left axle replaced in January. a few weeks ago, the noise came back, except from the right side of the car. Yesterday the entire right axle was replaced, but the acura dealer is still hearing the sound.

they hooked up microphones to the car and have concluded the aftermarket AEM cold air intake installed on the car has caused an increase in load on the engine, therefore damaging the transmission. my extended warranty will not cover the repairs.

any advice? it sounds bogus to me

It is bogus. COMPLETE. A CAI causing an "increase in load"? :shakehead

Call Acura USA, right now, and tell them that your dealership is trying to scam you out of the warranty coverage you paid for. If they don't make you happy, and damned fast (involving sending you to another dealership to have the car diagnosed correctly, and then fixing whatever is wrong at no cost whatsoever to you), explain that your next calls are to the Attorney General, the Federal Trade Comission, and the media, in that order. Also, remind them about the Magnussen-Moss warranty act which makes what this dealership did a federal crime.

Your intake did not damage the transmission. Period.

Also, post the dealership's name here so we can avoid the little scamartists.

OP- you have some (bad) luck! How can this happen to you twice now (dealer blaming a CAI for your problems)!! What exactly is the diagnosis on the tranny?

northeast acura. the only acura dealership in the albany area within 2 hours. they have honored my acuracare extended care for little fixes such as sensors, computers, door lock solenoids, radio/ hvac controls, clutch pedal components..u kno...the usual items that should never go bad in a car.

the service rep was gone by the time i got his voicemail, but his message said my AEM CAI overloaded the engine, therefore damaging the tranny. since the CAI is aftermarket, acuracare will not honor the repair work on the tranny.

i am going to call him tomorrow and ask for a detailed explanation.

There is no explanation. The CAI would have nothing to do with the tranny...that is BS. Don't accept anything he tells you.

Magnuson-Moss Act- look it up.

Should give you some ammo tomorrow when you talk with them.

the magnuson moss act just says the dealer cannot legally void my warranty unless they can prove the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure of the vehicle.

so is there any way what so ever that a CAI could cause a tranny failure? i mean it does increase engine horsepower (slightly), therefore wouldnt it effect the tranny?

Colder temperatures increase your horsepower (slightly). Are they claiming that if you drive it in below-freezing conditions you'll damage the tranny? Gimme a break. Your CAI did not damage the transmission. They're trying to get out of warranty work. It's illegal.

long story short: the acura service rep admitted the CAI did not cause the tranny to fail, but told me to either take acura corporate to court...OR put the stock intake back in and they will replace the tranny under warranty.

so my question is: do i need to remove the front bumper to install the stock intake? i kno i can easliy remove the CAI without removing the fascia bc i have done it before...

thanks.

Maybe it's something in the spindle? Not sure on these cars lol I know in a 4wd it was usually your spider gears in the rear chunk coming to pieces when you hear a loud pop lol
