Help :(
Hi guys!
My uncle let me borrow his brand new 06TL this weekend, unfortunately as I got in to the car an hour ago to go return it, I turned on the navigation, touched it and boom a hair line cracked developed from the bottom left to the middle of the screen, minor cosmetic but I feel so terrible, I put no pressure on it I swear and obviously such a crack can't be created by impact.
Is this a common issue?
Will the dealer fix it?(for free lol, im a poor college student.)
It looks like its the actual screen and not the cover in front...
How could this happen???

Should be fixed under warranty... it would be really difficult for the dealer to try and prove that it was "abused"
I just had this funny mental image because sometimes when I press "OK" it doesnt always respond or it takes a few seconds to respond so sometimes I PRESS it harder.
I was just imagining someone jamming their knife into it or something out of sheer frustration.
Sometimes I want to stab it when I try to search for the nearest Target and it tells me its 2600 miles away in Santa Barbara!

crack
Just taking a far outside shot at this problem.
Since you said this was a spanking new car, has your uncle taken off the protective film that originally comes on the navi screen?
If it is still on, and is smooth, you might be just seeing a crinkle in the film, not realizing its still on. Probably not, but just a thought.

Back to the topic. If there is no visible signs of abuse on the screen the dealer should be able to replace it for you under warranty.

I hate the search feature on the navi. Makes me wanna stab it sometimes.

So this is an issue with data integrity, however knowing that doesn't exactly make it easier to find the right location. You just have to check each one until you find the one closest to you.
This COULD be fixed on a NAVI update if someone was to go through and actually clean up ALL the data. However I think the chances of that are slim.

Regarding the navi seach...I've found I have better luck not searching by name, but by "advanced" under category. If I'm looking for Target, for instance, I choose to search by keyword. That way, I can type in "Target" and it will find all hits with Target in the name. It doesn't require an exact spelling that way. I first found this when looking for a Starbucks and I tried "Starbucks," "Starbuck's," and "Starbuck" to no avail. I then used a keyword search for "Starbuck" and found the ones I was looking for.

So we've learned an important lesson...don't let Xtin near your Navi screen! /GRIN
