Hello all!

Hi. I'm not officially a 3rd gen owner as of yet but figured I post and say thanks. Since I'm in the market for one, I've been reading your posts about the 3rd gen and it has been very helpful on my TL search. Finally registered.
Being in the market for a nice TL with a budget of $7000 is no easy task here in the midwest. Holy crap there are some junks out there. But not the cars fault. But I'm thankful to you guys for all the information that you guys put out there. It's helping me find the right one.

Imo the 3rd gen TL is the best looking TL out there. Love the lines. Anyway, figured I stop by and say hello..

Thanks...

For some reason I've been insulting people when I ask about their tl. I asked one person along with others that I have looked at about the history on their tl, importantly I asked if timing belt was done and if the 105,000 mile or 7 year service was not done, if they would consider lowering the price to reflect. Most tl's in my price range are up there between 90-150k miles. So it's important to me that these car have been maintained and serviced properly. Especially since I'm looking for an automatic.

Oh they get upset and put out when i ask.. Like I should just give them money and not ask questions... lol Its comical. Some just stop replying to me.

One guy got upset at me for asking if he's a dealer, why is he posting a car for sale as "by owner"
He tells me:
"It's my car and if you don't like it, call the police"
Lmao!

If I can ask, why are you looking for an automatic? Nothing against the automatic (since I have one), but the 6MT is SO much better if you can get one. The earlier year auto transmission is known for some issues unless taken care of, which mine is holding strong without problems thankfully. The 6MT also comes with the added Brembo front brakes which are MUCH nicer, and a few other goodies like a limited slip differential.

I don't want an automatic. But my girl will be driving it mosly with my kid in it and I just dont feel confident with her stick shift driving abilities. So im sacrificing fun for safety. . Sucks I know...

Going to see this one on friday. Supposedly well maintained with service history and one owner that was passed on in the family. And automatic... blah. Looks nice though in the pics

Ah good reasoning! Safety over all when it comes to children

That one looks promising. I'm actually jealous since its WDP with the A-Spec lip kit. Great find!

Keep us updated man!

That WDP looks like it could be a nice find! If you're ever in the market to get the car some horsepower, be sure to check out our webstore for intakes, exhaust components, pulleys, and more!

Hello and welcome!

I think you may have answered your own problem... As with all Hondas/Acuras, you get what you pay for. For around $7000, you might have a really hard time finding a mint car. Either gotta raise your budget, or lower your expectations a bit.

Good luck on searching and post back with whatever you find or settle on!

I got my car for around $7600, but I had to sacrafice a few things as far as condition and maintenance. The history was a little iffy, there was a chip in the windshield, and the paint was scratched in areas. It cleaned up nice though and because a fuse was blown they lowered the price thinking something was wrong so that was an easy fix.

Another perspective is they had another TL for $5600. It was in ok shape, was an 06 but had almost 190K miles and needed maintenance bad. The one I bought is an 04 and had 130K. I would say look in the $10K range for a TL and you will be much better off right out the gate. Good luck!

Great advice thaks guys!

I'm realizing that real fast. And I did raise my budget because of that. I am going in knowing that I will have to do work to anything I find in my price range. I'm losing hope on people. I'm a car guy just like you guys. When I sell a car, I want to get the most money I can out of it. I want whoever comes to see it to fall in love with it. So I clean it, fix things on it that need fixing and detail it. I'm honest about everything about the car and I show them my passion and love of cars by how well I take care of them.
This works wonderfuly and usualy the car gets bought by the first person who comes look at it.

I have test drove 4 TL's so far. All 4 the people selling them didn't even bother washing the cars. These cars were in the price range between $7000-10,000. The White one I saw yesterday, my girl had to move a garbage bag of what he called "clothes he plans on taking to donation" just to get in and seat down. The car was just filthy. He has the balls to tell me: "You should see how great this car looks once it's clean" hahaha what an a hole! Then I cought him in multiple lies about the car and it's history. That car was a ticking timebomb about to explode. Poor Tl.

I know sometimes it's not the best but consider a dealer. I bought my 04 at a dealer for less than $8000 with 116,000. It was a base with navi and the tan/cognac interior. No A-Spec but a perfect interior with no dash cracks at all. Sure the outside isn't perfect but what can I expect for a car of its age.

I've been looking at a couple at a dealer. They sure now how to clean a car... lol
Im going to see one at noon today. It's an all black on black base. 2008.
I told the guy to make sure the car is clean before I get there. He said no problem. But who advertises a car with pictures taken at night?
Lol

Hopefully it turns out to be a good one! NBP for the win! Solid year too, aux input and better transmission than my 04

Here's an 04 that I'm going to see tomorrow. Looks nice in the pictures. But he is asking $8500 and it has 135,000 miles on it. I think that is too much considering the year and mileage on it.

Dam that actually looks good though! A-Spec, nice looking wheels, custom headlights, and suspension. As long as it isnt sitting on TruHart coilovers it looks solid but I would get a lower price for sure

I agree it does look nice. claims tbelt and pump has been changed and documented history. Also has stock wheels with winter tires. The trans is what worries me in those 04s

If he has documented history I would hope the transmission has been maintained. Mine feels great. Not everyone has issues. I'm going to be doing a fluid change and change the pressure switches. Just preventative maintenance

I sent him a text asking what modifications has he done to it and I got a reply of "yes"
Haha just a yes... sounds like a winner already... lol

I got the black one. The guy bought it as a lease return from Acura and owned it since. Well kept, no navi though. 2008 with 100k on the clock. Just ordered a timing belt kit for it. And it was cleaned! Lol
Here's a bad pic. Those are frozen water drops on the bumper, not defects. The car is really clean. Has one very small dent that I will have a dpr guy fix for me.
I got it cheap. Cheap enough that I'm going to order the A-spec TL-S front and rear underbody spoilers for it

That pinstripe is hideous lol.. I will be removing it. Who puts a gold pinstripe on a black TL? Lol

After some research, ended up getting the front and rear A-Spec underspoilers from my local Acura dealer for $530 out the door. Picking them up tomorrow...

Congrats. Glad you found one you like in good shape. I'm also in the Chicago area and agree that cars and their owners in the sub $10k range are generally crap. Just have to be patient and you'll find the diamond in the rough.

Man seeing the lip on your bumper makes me want to pull the trigger on one now. Working on getting ISC coilovers first though!
