Thumbs down Headliner Separation

Anyone checked the headliner just behind the sunroof? I'll bet it has separated from the roof. My headliner was attached to the roof with "sticky tape" and in my buddie's TL, it is attached with velcro.

The separation occurs when you open the sunroof. The air flows in and blows between the roof and headliner....giving it a balloon effect.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Poor design for a luxury car.

Lots of discussion on this. Many people have the problem. This thread should answer most of your questions. http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...797#post748797

I wonder if Acura should have included the moonroof wind deflector as standard equipment then. It would decrease air buffeting the headliner and also reduce the "roaring" sound effect if you open the moonroof at highway speeds. Just a thought.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

My simple suggestion is to bring it back to the dealer and have them fix it.

My friend who also purchase a TL have that problem. It was so bad and the noise was so loud that he brought it back to Acura for a exchange or a full refund. After 4 to 5 times to the dealer for the same problem.

The Acura dealer set up an appointment with the district Manager to meet with my friend. They said that they know what is wrong and to give them one more chance to fix the problem or they will give him what ever he wants.

I will tell you what happen and how they fix that problem when he goes in.

It was warm today and I thought about opening the moonroof. Guess what I saw? Yep - my headliner had separated just like others are describing. I can see that it was only stuck in place with a poorly designed fastener. The glue had come loose from the roof of the car. One more thing to add to the fix list. At least this one isn't something that's subject to interpretation by a dealer. I just hope they have a foolproof fix - headliner fastening should be a solved problem in the auto industry.

My headliner has fallen twice now and will go back to dealer this week for a fix. The velcro remained attached to itself but the glue that holds the vecro tab to the car itself came apart.

rhaas - It's been reported that the dealer uses the same glue to "fix" the problem, and so it eventually comes down again.

Do a search on recent headliner threads - in several of them, Ron A has posted a great solution - basically you use epoxy instead of whatever cheap glue Acura chose.

Mine came apart few weeks after purchase (back in Jan). I took the car to the dealer and they used some other type of Epoxy and that seemed to have fixed the problem. I'll just have to see if it droops again when the weather gets warm. Just ask the dealer to use stronger bonding agent to reattach the headliner.
