Hey guys, after months of staring at my fugly headlights, I decided to try out Sylvania's Headlight Restoration Kit today. I was skeptical at first, but after reading the reviews on Amazon and the fact that they have a lifetime warranty if they ever turned yellow again, I figured what the heck. Anyway, to my amazement, the kit actually works! When I finally put the final UV coat on, the headlight turned crystal clear. It looks as good as new now. However, the only downside is, I didn't tape off enough of my front bumper below my driverside headlight, so I have some light scuffs from all the sanding. They're not deep, so I'm hoping some of Meguiars Scratch X 2.0 will do the trick. If anybody here needs to restore their headlights, I highly recommend Sylvania's Headlight Restoration kit. Here's some before and after pics:
Nice work, looks great! Its amazing how cloudy headlights can make the car look so bad. Glad you had good results!
Thanks! I totally agree about cloudy headlights. As soon as it got really dark outside, I just had to go out and check out my headlights. Man, I was shocked... it was like the light output increased 100%... it was a night and day difference. This really made me fall in love with my TL again. And it cost less than $20!
the headlight will turn yellow again, it just how you prevent it.
That's what I heard also. However, based on the research I've done, a lot of people are using 303 Aerospace protectant since it has an SPF40 UV protectant. I already have this product, so hopefully a quick spray after every car wash will help. We'll see...
Did you tape off your bumper? I can see swirl marks from leftover compound or polish on the bumper. I'm guessing that wiped off very easily?
I did tape off the bumper, but I only used enough to cover about 3/4" from the headlamp. I definitely should've used more... or been more careful. I was just sooo eager to see the results... lol. I ended up using some Meguiars Scratch X 2.0 and it's not noticeable anymore, so I'm happy.
I can't wait to do this. Already have the restore kit, but I'm being lazy.
It's definitely worth the effort, but the kit I used definitely required a good amount of elbow grease. I'm not sure which kit you got, but mine had 400, 1000, and 2000 grit sandpaper, so by the time I was done, my arm was definitely pretty tired!
