Headlight question

so I recently just purchased an 06 tl with fog lights installed and had a few questions im hoping someone can answer. My headlights if looking straight at the car has a total of 3 bulbs just like any other TL. The first bulb which I thought would be the high beams, then the hid projector, and then the corner bulb that comes on when you turn on the corner lights. The leftmost bulb (which i thought were the high beam) only comes on if the headlights are fully on and i turn on the fogs. When putting on the high beam it actually comes on from where the HID stock projector is located.( making it seem like its a bi-xenon bulb)

Is this how all 06 TL's with fogs are set up? Im thinking the previous owner may have customized it. The set up Im trying to achieve is to get HID fogs to match my stock HID headlights but I do not want the leftmost bulb in the headlight to turn on with the fogs when i eventually install the HID kit for fogs. I guess im trying to figure out the leftmost bulb purpose and when is it used.

The 3G TL does not have low or high beam headlamps. You are correct in your belief that they are bi-xenon lamps.

(as viewed from the front of the vehicle on a stock TL)

The inner-most lamps are your fog lamps which are incandescent. The middle lamps are your headlamps and are HID's which are bi-xenon lamps. The outer lamps are those of the parking lights. You can only turn on the fog lamps when using the "low" beam setting of the headlamps. When switching to the "high" beam setting, the fogs are turned off.

I thought the fogs were just the lamps located on the lower part of the bumper..so for the look Im trying to achieve (which is matching hid fog lights on lower part of bumper, with matching headlights) how do I disable the innermost bulb from coming on as i only want the hid projector light and hid fogs to be turned on?

Apparently the 04-06 TL's are kind of goofy and that the inner-most lamp that you would think would be some sort of high beam is actually a fog light. Acura changed that up for the 07-08 TL's to be a little more normal so that now that inner lamp is the DRL thats on anytime your headlights are off, and they now have fog lights at the bottom of the bumper like most cars. As you mentioned the HID projector is infact low and high beams because they are bi-xenon.

There are DIY mods on here that allow you to change all of that. Including using the stock switch and also adding lower fog lights (accord sedans) like the newer models.

Fixed your comment so it's not misleading.

would taking out the bulb out of the innermost lamp be the quickest solve (would this disable the fog lights on the bumper) for the look Im trying to achieve? Or is the mod route my only option?

You should have the option to have the headlights fogs on, or off. I believe it's on the left stalk of the steering wheel. Leave it on the off postion and leave as is.

Thanks, but I meant what I wrote and it shouldn't come across as being misleading. Low/high beam headlamps are either dual filament or multiple single filament lamps. Xenon lamps don't use filaments so in order for the driver to have a low and high beam operation, there is a "flap" which can partially disturb the emitted light or allow it to exit undisturbed, hence the bi-xenon designation.

Hope this is a better explanation for the OP.

Nothing goofy at all with the '04-'06 TL fog lamp arrangement. Mine work great and do exactly what I expect from a decent set of fogs. Granted, I installed Philips Premium lamps years ago because of their increased output (we have a lot of 4-legged critters running around in my part of the state). I'm quite happy with the stock fogs in my '05 and '05 TL.

I replaced my stock incandesant bulb with yellow bulbs from hoen. I think it looks great, although the "fogs" being so high up from the ground, the yellow light isnt as intense as opposed to if it were closer to the ground. It does add more light to the overall ground in front of your car, so happy with setup and looks good from the front.

Absolutely. If you're sticking with the stock setup, a good after-market lamp is the way to go. I have used the Philips Premium lamps in other cars as replacement lamps for 9006 and 9005 configurations. They emit around 30% more light and the good thing about them is their kelvin temperature is good for rain and other bad conditions (the lamps are not trying to mimic HID's). With my '04 TL, they put quite a bit more light to the immediate front and to the sides of the car. This is what I was looking for because of the aforementioned 4-legged furrys that inhabit my area.

thanks for the ideas guys. However, if its the lower fog light bulbs I'm trying to replace, what size bulb would those be? Still 9006 as the upper fog lights?

Depends upon which units were installed. Sure way to find out is to look at the lamps currently in there (you shouldn't have to remove them to do this).

they seem to be regular halogens, which I initially thought were hid bulbs. So i dont know if the hid 9006 would fit in that housing..

There's no such thing as a 9006 HID. 9006 lamps are incandescent whereas HID lamps are High Intensity Discharge... a gas of metal salts is excited by an electrical charge resulting in a high emission of light.

I think what comes with the TL is H8 and the Accord fogs have H11 in them...

you can pull the fog bulb out and see what is stamped on the back...
