Headlight baking and the TL Flavour

Hey Guys,
Got lots of info on modding our headlights.
And I am planing on clear corners with switchbacks.
And I never came accross the answer to my issue

Soo...

apparently the idea of putting our car headlights in the oven and baking them a few times is completely insane idea to my girlfriend.
(sadly she maybe right)
and I quote
"I bake cupcakes and wedding cakes in there, are they all going to smell like melted carparts?"

So to acurazine I came, for guidance, for hope...or at least a solution.

Does baking your head lights in the oven leave a smell or flavour?
It would be funny (TL flavoured cupcakes) but seriously..
Am I going to need to buy a cheap oven?
(no way I'm replacing the good one ;p )

So I ask,
If a headlight bakes in your oven, Does It leave a smell?

in my experience no. But now I use a heat gun to slowly melt the adhesive. Works wonders and can be opened in less time than it takes in the oven

No. But don't overheat.

There are numerous threads. If I recall correctly it's 200 degrees for 10 minutes (mmm, or is it 20??) with the door cracked open a very lightly damp towel under the headlight housing.

Check these to confirm:

Some have used different times/temps, but the tried and true is best, imho.

A Heat gun... Wojo thats genius.
I got one and can keep it outside of the "women's garage" and in mine.
Bearcat94 your right on the temps, 200 for 20 minutes is what most are saying.
But a heat gun sounds great.
If it did leave a smell I was just going to buy a used oven and put it in the garage.

Buying a used oven to DIY a headlight? Sounds counter intuitive financially.

The oven will smell like plastic right away after taking the headlights out, but it won't smell bad forever...
Just leave the oven door open for a while like an hour (which is excessive!).

I believe I had brownies made in the oven right after I did my headlights.

If you never used a heat gun to open headlights before, be very careful. Its very easy to burn the outside of the headlight housing and ur headlights will look brown

Home Depot and Lowes (not sure if in Canada) both sell a solution that can be applied to the grills/racks of an oven to get rid of the odor if there is any left. Not sure of the product name, but it was a blue container. Found out the hard way after my sister put a plastic tray in our oven...

$50 for a used oven.
$1200 to buy the woman a new oven + the cost of "yeah he wrecked our oven, mm Hmm, oh he put his head lights in there. Hahaha" every time the gaggle comes around.

I will gladly pay $50
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of pain.

you won't need to spend money on a new oven... get over that fact.

First hand experience... did you read about the part that brownies were made right after I did headlights for a TL and RSX?

They tasted great.
My stove/oven is a Kenmore Elite... touch controls, stainless steel, self clean, convection and everything.

I literally just opened a members headlights with a heat gun. Took me 10 minutes for both headlights. While I type this they are drying from the paint and I will post pics when done. Done for Bankz

Been here, done this-twice! 200 degrees in the oven for 20 minutes works. Never tried the heat gun method, but the oven method is simple and easy.

I used an oven too. Didn't have any problems. I followed one of the DIYs on here and it was very easy. I had some help; an extra set of hands always helps.
