headlight adjustment?

headlight adjustment?
So out of curiousity.. is there a way to adjust the height of our headlights?
i blacked mine out today, and now my right headlamp is aiming to high!! i've blacked out my lights and alot of other peoples, and dont recall this problem?
is it the two main headlight bolts that you can access from under the hood ? (2 under hood, 2 under bulkhead) its too late for me to try tonight, but i wanna fix it ASAP
everything else seems fine! the lines are perfect, casings are lined up almost 100% to where they used to be... no leaks...
if im not mistaken, the passenger headlight should be lower than the drivers?
kennedy? rodneyc77? you seem to know headlights.. any input?

the driver side is supposed to be slight lower... i did my measurements, and here is what i found
i parked 25ft away.... distance to middle of headlight from groud, 26inches...
on the white garage wall... left beam was a little too low @ 22inches (should be around 24ish) right beam was WWWAAAYYY to high, coming in @ 31 inches....
this must have happened from my headlight clearing yesterday, but i didnt have this problem on my last car or any of the other cars i have done the headlights too... wonder why they got soo out of wack...
its pouring rain out right now, but i will keep trying to get it right. i had the hardest time seeing on the parkway in the rain tonight, because the lights soo high that i couldnt see the road in front of me!! grrr

Its because if you didn't bolt the headlight unit exactly where it was before, the alignment will be off. Since you took it off and placed it back, i'm not suprized its different. Although the shift might be small on the car (since you didn't notice it) but at 25 ft away, it will be obvious.
I like math so here are some numbers:
The light is 5 inches higher when the car (source) is parked 25 ft away. arctan(5/(25*12)) => 0.95 deg difference. So your headlight is tilted only ~1deg from before. Hope this helps.

All you do is follow the v shaped track down the back of the housing (some models) or just look for the cam gear above/behind that bolt you are trying to adjust with
Use phillips head , + , screwdriver as a top gear against the adjuster wheel- use a little angle on the screwdriver and it will be obvious
Right side goes higher to see road edge markings and pedestrians
Left side lower for oncoming traffic- and aimed in right just a touch to put light right in front of the car too- makes for better dodging of objects/animals in road

yea i figured it out. i was having trouble because it was pouring rain, but i figured it out. (i was removing the plastic shroud) and i put the screw drive in straight down... lol
you have to really put it in on a crazzzyy angle. but it worked like a charm!
thanks guys

My drivers headlight is lower like everyone elses. Now if I adjust this to be equal, would that be wrong? lol And does it look less bright because it's angled down more? When looking head on, I want the headlights be equal brightness, I hate when you see a nice car and one headlight is significantly brighter than the other.
It's not a huge deal, but the driver side doesn't give the visibility that the passenger one does.

I thought the purpose of the driver side being lower is so that you won't blind oncoming traffic with your HID? Also I thought in certain states there was a law that was passed regarding this, I could be wrong though.

well if your car has never been hit or you have never 'baked' your headlights, the alignment shouldnt be off.... it is supposed to be SLIGHTLY lower... you should be able to notice it when you are parked facing a wall....

If you properly aligned the "cut off" line on "B" in that picture, the left side of the headlamp beam pattern is going to be lower than the right side, so it will not cause glare to oncoming drivers, whereas the right side flares up to light up signs etc.
The headlights are designed to merge the 2 reversed "Z" beam patterns into one reversed "Z" pattern if you're far away from a wall (like 100+ feet).

I couldn't edit my post in time so here's another pic to clarify what I meant.
Here's an example of an Accord with s2000 HID projectors retrofitted.
The beam pattern is very sharp on older S2k projectors (without the fresnel lenses). You can see the two "Z"s in the pattern. The left headlight needs to be aligned with the right. Notice how the left Z beam is kind of faint compared to the right side? The driver side beam pattern will merge with the passenger side into one large beam pattern from afar. The stepped light pattern by design will prevent glare to oncoming traffic.
