Headlamp Setup

So I was looking at actually putting in HIDs into my Gixxer and at the same time I was going to order 12,000K D2S bulbs for my 05 TL and also change my fog lights to 12,000K HIDs. But I am reading that the TL uses 9005 bulbs for the high beams? Is this correct? I had thought the TL just moves something inside the lighting area to create the light to shine at a higher level. Am I wrong? Can someone explain to me how the high and low beams work on an 05 TL?

Thanks!

Im pretty sure what you are saying is wright. The low beam and the high beam are the same HID, something moves in the headlight so it will shine brighter or expose more of the bulb i should say. The bulb that is next to the HID closest to the grill is the fog light only not a high beam. In some cases it is a daytime running light. Hope that helps.

Well...depending on the year that could be right. On ours (04-05) the foglight is built into the headlight and it's a 9006 bulb. Our high beam is the bi xenon (hi and low) projector.

In the newer 07-08's...the foglight is in the bumper, but there is still a bulb in OUR fog location which I'm wondering, might be the high beams. Not sure if that means no more bixenon for the newer ones but it's possible that that's a 9005 now. Maybe?

yes that is exactly what happens, inside the projector lens is a little piece that blocks out the top of the light projection pattern (hence you get that cutoff). When you flip the high beams on that little piece drops, causing all the light from the bulb to be emitted - Quite a smart little innovation I must say.

please dont do 12k..its worthless. anything over 6500k is just giving you color not brighter output.

functional ftw.

The TL projectors are bi-xenon projectors, meaning they use both high an low beans in the same projector. When high beams are flipped on the shield drops for the high beam. Stay with OEM bulbs 4300k, you will have enough color from your color band from a distance.

The light on the '07 and '08, where your fog lights are, is just a DRL.

Correct, We have DRL, Bi-xenon HID and the fog light(Type-S) on the bumper.

Dude...we got ripped. Lol...I DO wish I had DRL and the FOGs in the bumper...but I'm not concerned enough to do the mod.

Maybe later!
