that looks like it worked great, but do you think it would crack the paint?

No, it shouldn't crack the paint.

that methods works by heating the metal to a point got really hot then introduce to extreme cold temp like dry ice causing the metal to shrink and pop in place, this method is kinda dangerous because you will need to heat the surface to certain point depend on the dent, this can crack your paint. There is a safer way to do this, its call pop a dent kit and here is a video about that kit.

You might be able to use a heat gun instead of a hair dryer.

this method doesn't work the majority of the time and is quite hit or miss. i've tried it on several vehicles (using a hairdryer) and on several different sized dings/dents and never had success. i also looked up other people's results and only a handful were successful because it was a pleasant surprise when they expected it not to work.

never hurts to try though. your paint will be fine unless it's was already damaged.

Be careful... it is possible to separate the paint from the body underneath and after time, the paint starts to bubble out slightly, so pressure washing that spot any time afterwards should be avoided.

I was thinknig the same thing. But I wasn't thinking as much about the "later" aspect as much as the immediate.

However, if you have a bad dent, you gotta wonder if the existing dent it worse than taking "a chance" of pulling off the paint. haha
