i'm just anxious that tl can smoke bmw540!!

i had a race with mustang mach1 last night..

dammmn...

mach1 is si fast i think faster than new tl...or maybe my driving is no good...

but i couldn' outrun.....

 

So are you saying that you got "killed" by a Mach 1? Or it wasn't a race but you still couldn't get away?

 

A properly driven Mach 1 will outrun a TL by a noticeable margin...

I have a 03 540 with a 6 speed and my 04 TL 6 speed will out run it at low end. I have said this before......the TL should be compared to the 540. BMW's are way over rated...plus go on a long trip in one and you feel like someone beat the sh** out of you if you have the sport package as an option on the BMW. Acura makes a much better better car. I don't like or drive the BMW.....I gave it to my 21 year old daughter....I will never buy another one.

The only way to beat a car like the Mach 1 which I've seen run 13.6's and a couple of 13.4's is to hope he smokes the tires and then misses a gear.

Not only are they damn fast down low, on the highway the TL wouldn't stand a chance.

I couldn't say i smoked the 540i, but when he saw me on the FDR (in NYC) pull up behind him with my HIDs ON, he just had to step on the accelerator and see if I could keep up with him. You guessed it, I sure could! I was on his back bumper most of the time ( except when he was coming up on traffic, I backed off for safety ). After a couple of minutes of fast driving he slowed down and let me pass. I guess he wanted to see what kind of car I had. As I slowly passed him, he gave me a thumbs up. This was back in January when my car wasn't even broken in yet. I've now got about 5k miles on my 5AT and since I love to use the sport shift and use the mid to upper revs, the oil is down to less than 10% life. Time for the first oil change.
When the weather gets better I will change my OEM M+S tires to a better warm weather tire. I will keep the stock 17" rims though. Anybody got any suggestions?

 

is it better to use the "L" gear for hard Acceleration? since i heard there are problems with the SS.

Auto TL should be able to run with 540 as long as TL is in its first 3 gears. As soon as TL shifts to 4th 540 will be gone. I owned 02 TL-S and traded it 02 540ia. Take your TL to E-town racetrack as soon as it opens (end of March) and see what 1/4 mile nambers you get. My TL-S could not do better that 14.8, 540 ran 14.3. No mods on any of them. It is funny though that TL-S did feel faster from the start but in reality 540 had consistently better 60' time. I also believe that 540 represents yesterday's technology. Try to race 545 and you'll be destoyed.

buying into the hype? i think not. bmw's are a driver's car. it's not just the status b.s. either. they use quality materials, drive like a dream, and you feel connected to the ground.

 

my friend's got an Auto 540 (why auto?) and me with the TL 6-speed. not that i'm ever gonna race him unless on the track, in case the subject ever comes up, i would just like to know that the TL would win. someone please reassure me.

Mach 1's will beat TL's and 540's. mach 1 = 300 hp flywheel
TL doesnt even get 250 to the flywheel, and its FWD.

 

i think the TL will beat any BMW' except the Z8 and the M's

 

The problem with smoking a bimmer is to have the owners rag about how they missed a gear, the oil was not synthetic, the air pressure was wrong and on and and on .Its enough to drive you nuts!

 

That's BS. TL should not even be mentioned in one sentence with Z8/M cars. Even NSX will lose to Z8. Please be reasonable.
