Has anyone altered the manual mode in the 5AT? (2004)
Hey guys.
My previous car was a manual and I've always liked the connection it provides between car and driver. I didn't have a choice in transmissions when I bought my 2004 Anthracite TL, and I got the automatic.
Love the car so far. BUT... I'm sorely disappointed by the manual mode of the automatic transmission. The darn thing won't follow my commands, I assume because it's in full-time "dummy mode". Responses are not near as crisp as I'd like, and sometimes it completely ignores my order to shift into 3rd gear from 2nd. I get frustrated, yelling "that shift wasn't a suggestion, it was a command, dammit!" Okay, so maybe I don't yell, but I do think it... even my sister's Mazda3 has a better "manumatic" mode.
My question is... has anyone found a way to override the computer on gear changes? Some kind of computer chip, maybe? I doubt it, but thought I'd take a shot in the dark here... heck, I've learned all kinds of stuff on here that I never thought possible!

If you're nor reving very much all you have to do is bump the shifter, but if you're red lining it the only way that seems to work what that guy said, plus you really have to hold the shifter in the up shift position for a sec.

Mine has a lag that I've come to learn, but I've never had it ignore a request, except if I was stupid and tried to drop to second at high speed/low RPM. I don't have to hold it, either. A quick nudge is all it takes. If yours isn't doing this, it might be worth getting it checked by the dealer. Maybe you have a faulty switch.

First off, the computer will not shift unless it thinks it is safe so you don't go into redline by shifting 3 -> 2nd gear. The SS mode is a really extensive system that has to check numerous sensors and analyze data to make sure the shift is not endangering the car or you. SO the lag time is there just like with the drive-by-wire.

just toss it into L mode, but lift the gas off a split sec and jam it into L mode then jump on the gas again.
Lift your foot off the gas like you would do a hard shift on a manual.
