Hardwiring a Radar Detector or Dash Cam?

I am looking into getting a radar detector for my 2008 Acura TL. I desperately need one. I've done some research and I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the best one on the market right now: the Escort Redline 360c. It's a whopping $750 before tax but I am willing to bet that it will be cheaper than the speeding tickets I will avoid (along with the lawyer fees and cost of insurance going up etc).

Here's my dilemma: I like to keep my car clean and clutter-free, and running a cable from the radar detector to one of my cigarette outlets will drive me insane. I need to figure out a way to hardwire it. It doesn't seem too hard to do on most cars; you just need to access the fuse box. Unfortunately, with the fuse box under the hood in my Acura TL, I have no idea how I'm going to be able to hardwire the radar detector.

Anyone have any ideas?

there's a fuse box in the drivers side kick panel......
it's just like any other car.

Yeah, I just used an add-a-fuse in the interior fuse box, ran my wire up behind the A-pillar trim panel, and then tucked it up under the front of the headliner.

radar detector can be wired to the overhead console wiring to be on when the car is on. I run a Viofo A129 and it has an available hardwire kit that you will run behind the trim to interior fuse box. This allows the camera to operate while parked. The wiring kit has a voltage monitor that you can adjust so when the battery is drained to a certain voltage it will shut off to prevent draining beyond the start point.

Be careful with running that camera all the time. I've got VIOFO A129 Pro Duo and with hardwire kit that thing draws like ~0.6-0.8A all the time. Easy way to kill your battery over time. (as lead acids like to be charged to 100% all the time)

Peter I run the same duo. Did you not use the Viofo HK-3 hard wire kit with the adjustable voltage cut off? Keeps you protected when parked and you battery voltage maintained to an acceptable level. It turns off if I have been parked for several days. no camera when parked defeats 50% of the purpose. I caught a drive by shooting when I was parked getting dinner one time.

I run pretty much the same setup, only it's the A-129 duo and not the pro. With the hardwire kit I've not had any battery issues in a year and a half or so with the walmart battery that was in the car when I bought it. Low voltage just shuts it down after a day or two. I think I have it set to 12.1v but lose a few tenths from the battery to fusebox so I'm guessing it shuts down around 12.3-12.4v at the battery

I measured the current draw in park mode and decided that's too much. I was planning to use some power bank but couldn't find one that would charge fast and allow for supplying power and charging itself at the same time with enough capacity. Then I planned to make my own power bank but didn't get around to making it yet.

Right now for 99% of the time car is either parked in garage or at work where I can see it so I'm not really motivated to do anything about it.

Wired mine into the power wire for the Bluetooth module I threw out years ago when it caused a parasitic draw.

My camera is plugged into bulb circuit in overhead console. I even managed to fit the voltage regulator there as the camera is 5v.

Would it be possible to use a
MirrorTap MirrorTap
to power the RD? Again, I drive an 08 Acura TL. I'm not sure where I'd plug the MirrorTap in, but I figured one of you might know something I don't.

Just use some butt connectors and use some wire to attach to one of
these these
in the fuse box. Just make sure your RD runs on 12v.

Originally my plan was to hardwire it to the fuse box, and I might still do that, but It would be a lot cleaner if I could just tap straight into the rearview mirror (since I'll be mounting my RD right under the rearview) and avoid having to run a cable along the trim or whatever.

Remove the front individual map lights and remove the bolts securing the roof console.
The connector for the rearview mirror should be buried there.

ooops mine is not a Pro either, just straight A129 duo, perhaps that is the issue although I can't imagine it would require much more current?
