Hamilton Honda---Questions for those of you who've been

This is primarily to those who've been there for the timing belt and water pump special.

I am planning on calling and scheduling an appointment sometime this week for the Timing belt and water pump special (for my Type-S) that's been going on and has been so popular among us Aziners. I have a few questions though.

I know they do the timing belt and water pump, but I believe there are other things that need to be replaced as well, and I know they inspect the tensioner, thats no big deal anyway.

Their website only lists:

Includes:
Replace Timing Belt*
Replace Water Pump
Replace Drive Belts
Includes Genuine Honda Parts & Labor

What else needs to be done at the same time? What about the coolant (I most likely will want it all drained and filled with Honda coolant which should be blue IIRC) Aren't there any other seals that need to be replaced along with it? Spark plugs I figure they should throw in as long as I provide them, but I can do it myself if they won't add it in there for free. I've also heard they wash your car and change the oil which would be nice, I'd probably bring some Mobile 1 EP and filter if they do it.

I guess I have to give them a call and ask some of these questions, but I'd like to know what to expect and what I can ask for without reaching too far. I want to make the trip up there this Wednesday and get it all handled; hopefully that won't be too short notice.

Don't ever let a Car Dealership clean your car unless you want spider-webs all over your paint.

I've heard that they're good in letting you know if you need anything else done. I'd throw in ATF fluid & Brake Fluid.

I'd replace the tensioner. Coolant should be included since the water pump is getting replaced.

I doubt they will throw in spark plugs unless you do a valve adjustment.

I would DIY the trans fluid, brake fluid, spark plugs, and oil change.

Those should only take a few hours for all or can be broken up into different days when you have time. I would wait till I could put my car up on jack stands and do each service at once. Do your spark plugs, then drain/refill your oil, then drain/fill trans fluid, then brake fluid.

^This is just a suggestion, if they wont include anything else in your TB service. I enjoy working on my own vehicles, but thats just how I am.

Luckily I have a 6mt and the fluid has been changed recently. Went over the service records for the car after I picked it up and the brake fluid has also been replaced fairly recently. I guess that only leaves coolant and ps fluid, which is no big deal.

Can anyone else whose been there chime in? Ill probably give them a call tolorrow

Do it

Lazy to search right now but me and some others explained details and prices about that place.

I think $389 includes belt, pump and coolent system anyways
$249 was adjusting the valves
and $75 was tensioner

they first check it and ask you before they replace it but just do it, it's cheap

They washed the car but which dealer doesn't
They didn't replace engine oil, positive they would charge you
I did the spark plugs, I guess because they were going to charge me, otherwise wouldn't deal with the back ones. Anyways not too hard, you could do it

Gave the car at 9am, was ready around 2 pm

I also second the Tensioner. Labor price shouldn't be affected at all since they are already right there.

The dealership should let you know if they find anything else like leaks and so on.

Thanks guys.

Yes I plan on getting the tensioner done as well just because they'll be in there and I want the beast running properly. I'll also ask them to check on the valve adjustment, see if its necessary at all.

I was mainly wondering if there were any other gaskets/seals etc that most other dealerships or places that charge a lot more might include; just wondering if the special price is because they exclude something that might be beneficial to repair/replace

They might charge you for checking the valve adjustment.
Not sure but if they go by listening the engine, then no.

Go between two cars (narrow one way road)
Keep the hood lined with their doors, so sound echos
If you hear the diesel engine noise, you definitely need adjustment.

Mine was crazy as hell. Searched here, some said diesel sound. Boom.. positve
That easy to notice.

Gasket/seals... eeh BMW has problems with those
When they adjust the valves they replace those seals blah blah etc as well.
Positive they don't exclude something.

It's a special deal, not cheap if you don't mention it.

valve adjustment is only $289 (compared to local dealer)
and they include coolant.

all honda techs i talked to (including a master tech authorized to touch NSX) said J series cam/crank seals don't leak unless you're one unlucky,,,,(insert some swear word) and mentioned if it's not leaking, it's best not to mess with it.

and they'll charge you 1/2hr more labor if you give them 4 pulleys to replace (timing tensioner, idler, accesory tensioner and idler)
if they want more for pulleys, fight till you get it.

and i don't know who the idiot was but they lost one of my strut tower brace (okay i know it's not a strut but still) nuts and replaced one with almost no flange. i got pissed but they were 500miles away from me so i just bought one and put it on myself.

their carwash is okay.. NBP didn't get any more swirls than i had before lol my paint was in between poor and okay.

their chicken wrap is good lol

I was there 2 weeks ago to replace the TB on my '06 3G. I had them replace the tensioner also. I paid $514. I had already done the spark plugs and oil change. I got a loaner ('12 Accord EX) and spent most of the day in Philly.

One thing for sure is that Hamilton Honda is well run, and clearly good customer service is important to them. My experience was great.

Go for it.

Ok, I'm back from Hamilton Honda, the TB price for Acura is $498 and $98 for the tensioner, I was there at 7:30am and out by 12:30.
I did ask my service advisor Jonathan about paying the $398 and he said that was last month's price. And that it would go up next month! I would have liked to pay $100 less, but I'm still saving over going to Precision. My total was $629.14 out the door. Good waiting room with free coffee and Wi-fi

They wouldn't honor the coupon below? (Or you didn't know about it?)

http://www.hamiltonhonda.net/specials/service.htm

This coupon is the price they've had for years: $399 TB, water pump and $75 for tensioner. $498 w/tax. When I was there a couple years ago, the coupon said "Honda vehicles only" like this one, but that also applied to Acuras.
