Grill inserts look like shite

I think the worst looking feature on the TL are those cheap plastic inserts on the lower bumper. What makes it worse is that I live in the Great White North and have a block heater with an ugly cord dangling out the front. There's no room to tuck it behind.

Anyone know if mesh inserts or anything else is in development? Ronjon perhaps?

Someone with a service manual should be able to help you out with how to pop out the grill inserts (I think that is possible).

Making a mesh grill for both those sides should not be too hard, I've done it for my 00 Altima. Especially because the area is not any odd shape. It is basically a rectangle.

I think the mesh grill might look cheaper though, unless it has a good finish.

Could not agree more the lower grill needs help. I'm thinking of painting them the color of the car, WDP. Hopefully that will help them disappear.

Yea, let their cars run hot. Those mesh grilles reduce airflow quite a bit. They make the car look like an old Ronson shaver.

That would look nice. Brush steel mesh would look good on NBP as well.

I have grille -tech silver mesh inserts on my blue TL . However to fit them proberly you have to make brackets and get fiddlely little stainless steel nuts and bolts .....They come with tie straps ...yuk ....It ended up being a full days job. However they look nice if fitted properly .

Just wondering what is required to pop out the grille inserts? Do you have a block heater to be concerned about? Thanks

How was it done? More Pics...

I actually had the dealer paint them while it was in for a front bumper cover repaint my color was so far off that the dealer volunteered to repaint both bumpers. I believe they took them out while painting.

It comes out the FRONT of the bumper when you release the clips. it ouwl be easy to do with the cover off , but possible while it is on. Look closely throught the front and you will see the tabs. It litturally just snaps into the bumper from the front for installation.

I think it does not look good, especially on a white car. The grills are not a particularly good design element, and drawing attention to them by painting them body color does not work for me. Otherwise, why not paint the the cowl where the wipers sit as well? (Kidding). On the dark colors, which most of us have, it is not an issue. I also think the monochromatic look is getting overdone - the new Mustang would look better if there were more shiny design details uo front.

I do like the painted door handles and side view mirrors, which even some expensive Euros do not get right. But haven't we all seen a fly yellow Civic riced-out with everything painted fly yellow, including the battery? I have.

Remember when dual wiper blades gave way to three blades, then four, etc? I speculated once that if the rubber had better grip, when the driver cut on the wipers, the car would flip over. Oh yeah: those wiper bodies could be had with chrome, gold, white, red, etc, and even the rubber (siliconed) could be obtained in the primary colors =

I wanna see the grill inserts .. i think they would look mint on the A-spec TL's...

I love the Z06 mesh grill inserts.. they make the front end look more aggressive.

Right, but it is part of an overall styling them, and is carried over to the (fake) rear drake ducts. It does not look added on.

Also, if the grills on the TL are functional (I have literally never stooped that low , then obstructing them is probably not a good idea. Grills with a 50% or less flow reduction are not easy to accomplish. (I designed an electostatic loudspeaker with metal stators. and the best material i could find which still had acceptable structural integrity was only 50% open!).

Anthracite_Man,

I like how the lower grill trim resembles the trim in the headlight assembly. Your mod is a cheap, easy to apply and reversible alternative.

1. Cheap - Door edge trim found at Pep Boys ($12 max).
2. Easy - All you need is a pair of scissors, tape measure and 10 minutes of time.
3. Reversible - Just peel it off. You're now ready for the new RonJon kit.

I've applied your mod to my car. Thanks for the tip!

I think even the G35 Coupe w/ the Aero kit has a black honeycomb mesh that is very hi-flow (from appearances only) .. i think that it looks mint on the G35 as well. The Z06 is an aluminum colored mesh, but I think a black mesh would work well on the TL and blend in nicely (TL A-spec that is).

I dunno, I am pretty sure the mesh would look pretty badass on the A-spec TL.
