^ i'm interested in the parts as well. I know that the silver trim strip above the license plate does not come seperately (only as part of the license plate assembly). However if I can just find a TL at a salvage yard.

We'll have to do the whole front grill insert as leaving that gray part alone would look fugly. I just stepped into the garage to envision it. It's going to look awesome. Are you going to check on the cost of the front grill insert as well?

I'm considering buying all the parts, that way I can go back to eom at anytime. Also so I don't have to drive around with a big hole in the front end.

Yeah, I'm going to get a price on all the parts and post the results from all sources. I also don't want the hole in the front look, but like you, I want to be able to go OEM should I need to.

acuraeomparts:

Part ______ Part number ____ list ___ Price
---------------------------------------------
Rear A ___. 75701-SEP-A00 __ 22.38 __ 17.90
Front A ___ 75700-S0K-A01 __ 14.40 __ 11.52 - '02 to '06
Front A ___ 75705-SEP-A00 __ 30.17 __ 24.14 - '04 to '06 <-- Murhpy's law... this one is probably ours

After looking for the front grill insert, it looks like it's attached to the bumper. The website only showed it as part of the bumper and not available separately. Can anyone confirm that the front grill can be removed from the bumper or purchased separate from the bumper. Btw, the part number on the bumper is 04711-SEP-A90ZZ.

You guys know you're going to need to post pics, right? This should look pretty sweet on the black...or if you're a WDP-er, it would look good if you had a white/black theme going (I think someone said that already). I personally am sticking with the standard chrome badges.

I thought about the same theme for my SSM. I already have the TL-S tails I was going to get some black chrome rims and have my headlights smoked with black chrome with the rest of the grills the same. I decided to go a different route though I bet it will look good. Check out some pictures of a NBP '07 TL-S's grill to get an idea. They are done in black chrome also.

Man those prices are good! I'm going to ask about the grill at my local dealer and then get a part # from them! Oh yeah, what about the front strip (on hood) and the back strip (lic plate)?

Brett, after I do this mod, I will be posting first time pics! Then my next pics after that will be in May prob when I slap the Liquid Graphite Legends on that Dr. von Rondog is working on!!!

The license plate silver trim, i don't think comes separately.

However the grill does!!!!!
Link to Front Grill

And the hood molding:
Part: 75120-SEP-A00
List: 44.50
Price: 35.60

We just have to figure out exactly which parts of the grill to do. Getting a little costly but not to bad for being able to go back to oem.

I'm definitely wanting darker than that. Somewhere between painting the grill oem NBP and the pic you showed. Thanks for finding the pic!!!

Nah, this look is going to be darker. Look at the pics that Trance put up initially. That's what we want our grill and emblem to look like. A darkish bluish tint that blends in with the paint of the NBP. Know what I mean?

If you find a better angle of the picture it is darker, this was just the best head on one I could find. Before you buy I would check out the dealer to see how it looks in person. I would imagine it is the same color as the TL-S taillights

It is only for a good guage of how it looks though, the TL-S grill won't fit in the '04-'06 models.

In case anyone else is interested besides me and Buda, here are the parts I will be checking on today:

Front A

Rear A

Grill

Hood Strip

Silver Trim

I will be getting prices for these parts, and prices for the work on these. The emblems we already know from Trance. If someone else sees this and takes initiative to find a good price, then by all means post the results. Thanks!

Hey darksom1, should we do the grey area on the grill in NBP instead of black chrome to give more contrast?

In the thread I just created, you can get a good idea of what kind of work you can expect from a decent shop that chromes plastic.

Looks good!!! Do they do black chroming like the ones at the beginning of this thread? What was the cost for the 2 peices you had done? What is the name of the place. Maybe we could leverage the options and get the best price with the best quality of work.

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to protect the chroming? i.e. regular waxing or putting on a clear coat. I'm in MN, atleast for now and the winters up here are not nice to paint.

I got this done at Chrome Pros Plating. The total for the job was $350. It was not cheap! The price breakdown was $250 for the wing piece and $100 for the v-shaped piece; possibly $200/$150. Either way, it was $350 total.

I didn't ask about whether they could do black chrome, but my guess is that they could since they're "Pros" - it says so in their name! No but seriously, I'm sure they could do it.

Wow... Pricey. I think trancmission said the emblems we're about $70 for all 4 from his vendor. Needless to say, I think thier prices would be cheaper that that based on that example.

Chrome pros do nice work, but they charge "harley" prices... as in overpriced... HD used to stand for Harley Davidson, now it stands for Hundred Dollars, hence you HAVE to be a RUB (Rich Urban Biker) to afford a Harley these days.
I digress.

Props for the balls to do it. Not my style, but I admire your dedication. It will probably look great on WDP.

You could very well be right. I had been searching for someone to chrome plate plastic for a while, and these guys were pretty much the only guys I could find. Keep in mind that the pieces I had chromed are considerably larger than a few emblems, and considering their shape, they could be more complicated to chrome as well. Who knows what they would charge for some "stinkin' badges." Either way, I'm not a chrome expert, and perhaps I overpaid for this one. I will say that I'm quite stoked on the way it looks and I can't wait for it to all be installed.

I wonder if the emblems can be coated with fluorescent materials so that they can glow in the dark?

Ummmm, yeah. You let me know how that works, ok.

j/k... I'm sure you could find something to do that. There are hobby glow in the dark paints, so it shouldn't be impossible for what you are thinking. However that's not my cup of tea.

Aaarghh! That chroming guy is hard as hell to get on the phone Buda! The damn thing just keeps being busy. By the way, I have to go by the dealership to get the parts team to look at that piece (strip) on the back and tell me what the p/n is and price it with AcuraOEM because they couldn't find it on their site. So far the pieces are relatively inexpensive. He can be reached at this number from 8-12 CST today: 1-713-697-3134 if someone else wants to try as well.

I went by the dealership after I got off work (parts dept closed) to look at the grill on the TL-S, however. It was dark, couldn't see it clearly, but HawaiiTL may have a point (subbing that grill instead). It certainly is a good alternative if this doesn't work out. I have reservations about sending this guy stuff and he is hard to reach and it is anywhere near as expensive as Brett's chroming pieces (good job Brett by the way, and I see you in the retro-Jordans!). Besides, there is the possibility that something could go wrong (like what Trance said. Hmm...maybe we can get Trance to guinea pig some more? j/k LOL!). And it not be to our liking. So huge reservations on that. But I want to know what's up before I bow out. Go check out the TL-S grill Buda and tell me what you think. I'll be leaving for work in a couple of hours and won't be able to check back here until after 6 pm EST.

By the way, does anybody know if the 07 TL-S grill/emblem assy will fit an 06 TL??

This is an ongoing, and seemingly never answered, question around here. I wish that the all the 2007 TL-S pieces fit with m 2006. It looks like some might, but no one has really tried it and/or confirmed it one way or the other. One guy was saying he semi-did, but it was unclear what the fitment was like with the wing piece.

Basically, I went the route that I did because I knew for sure that I wouldn't be wasting time and money this way. It cost me a little extra to have the chrome job done, but I guess you could say that I paid for piece of mind.

When I do my fogs and grill I'll know Brett - I am going to order the TL-S wing and give it a try. I seriously think it's a swap but won't be able to confirm until I get one in my hands and the bumper off (where is the warm weather!!!)

Ok, I stopped at a library to give you guys this update! LOL! Don't hate!

I went to the dealership and they said that the back piece or strip above the license plate is part of that whole assembly (lic plate). And that whole assembly at my dealership was about $236.00+!!! Ouch!! That makes that part of the mod either not important (lol), or junkyard material! I guess one other alternative is a body shop that can paint that to match the black-chrome. But that would mean they have to keep my baby for a few hours. Dunno... I still have to get the price from Delray, which stealership still will match. Here are my Delray prices so far:

1) Grill molding or trim (#4 when you look at assy on acuraoemparts.com)
p/n - 75125-SEP-A00 $35.70

2) Front Eblem assy (#6) - p/n - 75705-SEP-A00 $24.14

3) Hood Molding Assy (#18) - p/n - 75120-SEP-A00 $35.60

4) Rear Eblem (#3) - p/n - 75701-SEP-A00 $17.90

5) This would be the piece mentioned earlier that is a part of the lic plate assy. I still have to search for a junkyard or ebay piece first. Does anybody know if this piece is sent as a part of the assy and not taken off if it can still be chromed? I am going to guess that I don't know how to take it off. Maybe I can...dunno...

I also talked to Alex, not his sig other or mom Trance, lol, and he said for me to email him a close-up pic of the parts so he can visualize this and give me a price. This I will probably do Sunday. Have you found anything else out anyone? Buda? I'm still going to do this!!

That's all for now...more news at 11...(or when I get off work)

P.S. - (off topic) Hey Steve and Kennedy, guess what? It just might be warm enough for me to get that security LED done!! Wish me luck!!

- Ray

Good... get that light in.

1) Why don't you send him bretallica's pictures right now so I can start ordering parts for black chroming.

2) Kinda ghetto fab answer, but why don't you remove that rear plate mount trim from the back of your car, and send it in to be chromed with the new parts? It's one of the few pieces you could drive around without for a few weeks without any issue at all.

The Silver trim above the license plate can be removed (held on by 3 screws). To take it off do the following:
1. Remove license plate
2. remove trunk lid interior trim.
3. disconnect wires from license plate lights and reverse lights.
4. Undo nuts (8mm) from 4 bolts holding on license plate assembly on the inner side of the trunk lid)
5. Remove license plate assembly from trunk lid to get to screws holding strip on.

I had to do this when doing the cold cathode and backup camera installs.

Also I went a little further on the price checking in case someone doesn't want to debadge and wants all the rear emblems black chromed.
Continuing from darksom1's list:
6) EMBLEM, RR. (ACURA) - p/n - 75711-SZ3-A00 - $13.64
7) EMBLEM, RR. (TL) - p/n - 75722-SEP-A00 - $11.80

I could not find the a-spec badge on the site, however I remember that the dealership charged me $24.50 for it.

Were you able to find anything specifically about that little trim piece above the license plate? I know that darksom1 said that it was part of an entire assembly and could not be ordered separately from said assembly. This is one of the issues I encountered when starting up this project...what seems like oh so long ago...so I just kind of gave up on that one (for now). It would be a nice finishing touch to my chrome-out project.

Why Acura chose to deck out its TLs in brushed aluminum, I'll never know.

I seriously hope it's a swap. That would stoke-out a lot of people who want to do this. I'm guessing there's a good number of people anyway. I just couldn't buy it, not knowing whether it would actually fit. Once it's opened, it's un-returnable. I wasn't willing to take that risk.

4. Undo nuts (8mm) from 4 bolts holding on license plate assembly on the inner side of the trunk lid)

I had to do this when doing the cold cathode and backup camera installs.

Also I went a little further on the price checking in case someone doesn't want to debadge and wants all the rear emblems black chromed.

A- spec Badge $20 from Acura of Escondido. He's usually selling it on ebay.
