Thumbs down Got my ass handed to me by a Dodge Caliber SRT-4

First of all, I have never seen that car around here before, well maybe I didn't pay attention to it.. Anywho.. Me and my friend driving to his house on I-287.. my friends has a G8 GT and every time I'm behind him he always tries to loose me on straights so he guns it often.. he does it at random so I loose time downshifting.. I can kinda stay with him up till about 100 then you can really see the advantage of that V8 cause past 100 he starts walking away..

Anyway me an him going down the interstate at about 80, this black Dodge Caliber SRT-4 pulls up next to me on the right side, I don't know the mods , the only thing I saw was a custom exhaust..
then my friend guns it since it was a long straight stretch ahead so I take off after him, and this dodge does too (about a second later) he's right behind me, just enough so I can see him in the passenger rear view mirror, I see his headlights kinda tilting up (I guess he floored it) he steadily just passes me, catches up to my friends G8 - at this point the G8 GT is doing about 120 and he passes him too like it was nothing, my friend hits the limiter (137) the SRT4 just keeps going and going..

WHat THe F*ck kinda car is that ?? for all I know its a FWD ~280ish HP 4- cylinder turbo.. but come on?? Do they make mods for that "minivan/car/su-god knows what"? I'm gonna go do some research lol

Anyways just though I'd share my loss

Yes, they can be as capable as the SRT-4 Neons. Very quick cars from rolls when built.

Oh yeah, these little 4 bangers boosted from factory can be made into some mean highway pulling machines. I was about to trade my Subaru for an 05 ACR Neon SRT4, had a 50trim AGP Turbo and all supporting mods, made over 400whp on 2xpsi.

factory tuned turbo cars are SO unfair
i sort of wish i got the 335i over the g37, but with the cost of maintenance and the high probability of me breaking the damn thing from a lead foot, meh...

but still...

factory tuners like the srt caliper + audi 2.0t + gti + 335, etc. are no joke when properly built + tuned (even simple mods). it's rather annoying...............freeway pulls are stupid, STUPID - they just have too much torque to make up for low hp.

on the contrary however, i raced an ms3 today (same one), and beat em by a good 2-3 car lengths. i could of sworn he had only a single passenger, but he claims to have had a full car (4). who knows...

Yea...even stock, they should pull on a TLS 6MT...they can get ridiculously quick as well.

Really? I thought they were 100-101? Hmm that's quick. I stand corrected.

how much does 1-3 mph difference in trap speed really make so much difference? what kind of difference are we talking about here? a few .1 seconds?

I'm not really sure Eric. It all depends on the launch. Should probably be around 1 car length through the 1/4 mile for each MPH difference. But I'm not really sure. Might even be less.

I've done some research, stock SRT-4 Caliber seems to do 1/4 miles in 13.9-14.4 @ 103 traps.. 0-60 varied from driver to driver but but varies from 5.3-5.9 sec... problem is, people that buy them rarely keep them stock, and with basic mods 0-60 doesnt change much, but 1/4 miles it hauls ass!

It's hard to say but the bigger issue is that a higher trap does not always translate to a faster accelerating top end provided that the cars are somewhat close to being with. At times a higher trap car can be slower in the top end and vice versa. Most of the time it can be considered a good baseline or educated quess but the trap speed is really a reference for the 1/4 mile distance, not always beyond it.

That would also need to be measured on it's own to be as effective, that's what the 1/2 mile is for but too bad you can't really find that and speeds like that are overly excessive in relation to speed limits especially the faster track cars.

Not sure how accurate this is but I have heard that really effective staging can manipluate trap speed results and cars that are well suited for that will show higher traps than those that don't but it doesn't necessarily mean anything for top end unless you actually and accurately measure that as well.

There are not many examples but if you look around you can find more than a few. The one that I am familiar with has to do with the TL. The TL SH 6MT has shown consistently highly traps than a TLS 6MT but I have little doubt that the TLS will edge it out anything over 110 mph with equal drivers from personal experience and that it has shown to be the better 0-130 mph car.

ahhh that makes sense. i guess that explains why some cars have identical 1/4 times, but different trap speeds. thanks for the explanation wolst
